I have two questions.
1. Will the toaster be able to accept control commands from and
editing system much as a Grass Valley 100 or Videotek Prodigy would
(accepting key, cut, dissolve, etc. commands on a serial port)? In other
words, can I use it as a post-production SEG?
2. When can I expect my Toaster to arrive? (I know you *LOATHE* this
question, but I've already paid my vendor for one [for corporate political
reasons] and it would be *more* than helpful if I could have it installed
in my Amiga before September.)
Mr. Koster,
I will try to answer your first question based upon what is
expected to be in the first release of the Video Toaster. The unit will
not control external devices, but will have an optional GPI triggeer
available in the future. It is possible that the Video Toaster will have
the capabilites that you mention in a future revision,but I do not have any
information on that yet.
Regarding delivery dates, I do not have a definate delivery date at
this time. Once the unit has passed FCC certification, I will have more
information available. At this time, we have not accepted any orders for
the unit.

I hoof been busy since relocating to Southern California. I will
try to get my schedule back inline so I can spend more time in the
AmigaTech and AmigaArts Forums. Right now, I try to get into the
AmigaVendor Forum at least once every 24 hours. [Shouldn't is be

You may have misunderstood my question. I am *not* wondering if the
Toaster will control VCRs–I already have an editing system to do that.
I am wondering if the Toaster can be *controlled* by my editing
system. Can it simply be told by another computer what to do rather than by
a mouse? Will it emulate common Post-production SEGs (GVG 100, Prodigy) so
that it may be easily integrated into mid-range editing systems (CMX, Sony,
etc)(Personally, I have a Videomedia VLC-32).
BTW, I thought others might be interested, too, so I posted this
publicly.

In the inital release, the Video Toaster will be controlled by the
user thru the Interface that is provided with the system and is displayed
on a monitor (in either a 2 monitor setup with the interface super-imposed
over the preview screen, or a 3 monitor setup with a interface specific
monitor). In the future, it is possible that the Video Toaster will have
additional controls. This could be done thru many types of interfacing, of
which I do not have any information on what would be supported. We did
mention a GPI trigger that is an optional item (cable and software) and I
am not sure if it will be setup to trigger or will recieve the GPI trigger.
Until the unit is shipping, I really cannot comment on future developments
of the Video Toaster, other than we are working on a 24bit Paint system and
a 3D animation system.

RAD, is the delay on the Toaster because you guys are seeking class B
(consumer) certification? Maybe it would be better just to go for class A,
which is a lot less stringent (for business use). Just a suggestion.

There are many things to take into concideration for FCC approval. The
requirements for Class A and B have been taken into account, both from an
approval standpoint as well as a marketing standpoint. I hope to have some
information soon that will be posted here.
