Jack, take it from someone who wanted to get "professional output" without
a PostScript laser printer. You won't . You'll get the closest by using
PageStream with PixelScript, but if you compare it with laser or if you
intend to reproduce the results, you will be disappointed (and I'm NOT a
perfectionist). After a year of trying to be happy with dot matrix results,
I finally caved in and saved up for a postscript laser printer. I would
have saved myself a lot of disappointments if I'd done it earlier. Of
course, $ factors have to be considered. But I got my printer secondhand
from the original owner, 9 mos. old at about half the original price.
But maybe you'll be all right with PgS – Pixel makes a BIG difference but
is VERY SLOW…

I agree with your statments 100%. I, too, got tired of second-rate
output and compromises. It cost me a lot, but I broke down and got a
PostScript printer too. And with the Preferences driver [not perfect] that
a friend found for me, it is a LOT more versatile. NOWDAYS, there are many
more options, with HP type lasers + PostScript cartridges and less
expensive PostScript printers.

Now wait untill you see some output from a lino, you'll look at you 300dpi
laser, and consider it a low-resolution printer! (at least that's what
happened with me!) Gee I wish there was a good CHEAP imagesetter available!

As I noted to Lloyd, forgot to sign my name – I'm Donna of the Bickley's,
not John. What a nasty message <grin>. I REFUSE to look at any lino output,
at least not for awhile. I think the lino-type printing is coming (cheaper
and more available). This field is galloping ahead, seems to me in the
short time I've known about it.
