Brian, Even if it was assigned to something else, "Assign fonts2" should delete the assignment, no? My startup transfers from a normal CLI to a shell CLI. Usually, the normal CLI ends after the Shell CLI starts. For some reason, this didn't happen, but when I closed the normal CLI, the problem disappeared.

Jon, Yes…IF the original assignment of fonts2: had been that…an assignment, then a new assignment would have "overwritten" the original. However, if the original fonts2: were a physical device (volumn name of a floppy for example), then no…a new assign won't work…and you'll get the exact message you got. Don

Don, Thanx for the reply. It wasn't a devicename. Just one of those weird things where ya blame the machine, but it's really some dumb human error. Jon

Jon, yes, it should, but I've seen it happen here. <scratching head> I don't know. Brian J. Bartlett
