Well it is certainly true. Of course it doesn't mean that I won't still
hang around on CIS, just that I don't represent SAS or have any connection
to SAS in any way shape or form. Definitely a change after 8 years at one
place…

It is my intention of continuing to do some work on the Amiga. I have to
get my setup back to reasonable standards first. I suspect that initially
my new job will take a bit of work to get into. FYI, I will be working for
Bell Northern Research here in the Research Triangle doing telephone switch
work in Pascal. It will definitely be a major change in life.

I bet it will. Well, good luck – and I'm very pleased to know that you'll
still be around the Amiga community, whether you make new stuff for us or
not.
I'd like to thank you for your work on the C compiler; you've had a direct
hand in every Black Belt product (and SoftCircuits too, if you remember
that) we've made – we appreciate the quality and the *excellent* support
you provided us over the years. Lots of times you saved my *** by telling
me exactly why I was being an idiot. :^)
You left big shoes to fill; It's pretty hard to blame you for that, though.

Congrats on the new opportunity, JT. Sooner or later I'm going to make it
to another ASDF meeting. I was kind of getting married when the Guru
Meditation hit this year, so I have a valid excuse for missing it 🙂

Usable language? I wouldn't go that far. It is extended to put in those
things that Pascal is missing.
The GURU med was quite good this year. The first time that everything has
gone smoothly (well, we didn't have a human sacrifice for entertainment
this time) Congratulations and welcome to the secret order of married
people, you should be ready for an ASDF meeting by now…

Have you (or BNR, rather) considered Ada for the application? NTT in Japan
seems to like it. Note that I'm _not_ trying to get a computer language
religious war going! – just curious about your description.
Given an investment in somewhere between 10 and 15 MILLION lines of code,
it is unlikely that they will be changing languages anywhere in the near
future.

Now it seems to me that there is a very strong history of connections
between BNR and the Software Distillery… I used to work at BNR Toronto
and I recall getting one the the SD members at RTP to send me the A1000
schematics thru company mail… Did you use to work at RTP?
(And BNR Pascal is probably closer to Modula-2 than 'real' Pascal don't you
think?)

Certainly there is a lot of connection between the Software Distillery and
BNR, 3 of our current members (now 4) are BNR people. One former Distiller
is now at BNR in Ottawa. Other members are at SAS Institute and a few
outer scattered companies.

Although I realize you are no longer associated with SAS, but I am
curious if you know if SAS may one day release any of its statistical
programs, such as SAS/PC or JMP, for the Amiga.
You will have to talk to them about it. I can't really say if they will
ever consider it. It would depend on whether there is enough of a market
for it or not.
