Has anyone used the Amiga soft PC emulator IBeM000 and got it to go? I
edited my mountlist using the CrossDos Dev which is what the programmer
implies will work. Go the program going but it will not run programs larger
than the 64K in memory. Is there something I need to do? His examples show
dev as Messydisk.device. Have not tried it with that. The program was
written by Mark Tomlinson
Margaret: I got IBeM working first try, using a modified CrossDOS dev as
you did. I fired it up with MS-DOS 3.3 then loaded Wordperfect Executive,
which ran no problem. I am certain it has more than 64K of space
requirement…a lot more. IBeM in the PD version is crippleware, but if
you've done everything right, it should load up to 704K of RAM.
Let me say that I have an Amiga 1000 with the 512chip ram and two megs of
fast ram. Don't know if this makes a difference. I'll keep trying with it.
Did you have to do anything configuration with PCDos?

I have also ran IBeM000 on my A1000 (with 2meg ram). I didn't have any
trouble running PC software, even programming enviroments. Did you specify
the amount of memory for the emulator to use? The program IBeM000 requires
a parameter after it for the amount of memory to give the DOS session (and
take away from the Amiga). On my machine, I ran: IBEM000 640 to get a
640k DOS session.

Well I had two problems, one is that my old Commodore 5.25" would not
access the extra ram that I have. There was some obscure mention of that in
the IBem docs. If I put a program disk in the 5.25" I'd get a statement
like, "program too big for memory" or some such. I used Crossdos to copy
the program to 3.5" disk, works fine there. Some programs run acceptably,
some are too slow. The other problem that I wanted to use my 1000 on just
floppies. I had to take out my WB disk, put it in the external drive, and
be sure I had IBMdos in Df0:. Otherwise IBeM would whine that I had no
bootable disks. Don't know why it doesn't read the external drive at boot
time. I like this program. I could see that if you had a 020/030, it would
be O.K. to use. I need to demonstrate a CGA program to a user group that I
run on Sunday. Nobody had a PC to bring. So that's why I wanted to get it
going. Not the best documentation but I'm sure its worth the $30.00. I like
the idea you can toggle back to the Amiga.
Issue the coomand "IBeM000 640" and you should get 640+K of memory to use
with IBM 3.30.

That is the version of the program I'm using. I'm using the demo version if
that makes a difference. I really need to get it going by this Sunday. I'd
like to demonstrate a simple CGA program using my Amiga.
I tried that, but still got an illegal instruction error. What exactly
does my disk in the MS-DOS drive have to have on it? Is it supposed to be a
system disk with command.com, autoexec.bat, and a dos directory?

I'm not certain this is really addressed to me; I think someone else in the
conversation is the intended recipient. However I see you're talking about
IBeM – your disk in the "MS-DOS" drive should be a fully bootable disk by
DOS standards, including Command.com, DOS, and those "invisible" two files
whose names I forget. Actually autoexec.bat can be done without, though
there are good reasons for using one.

I had the same problem–IBeM000 and CrossDos dev–a I also have been
unable to get any results except errors.

Well my other problem is that even though I have a hard drive I want the
run the system floppy only. My harddrive is obviously not autoboot. So what
I found out is that you need to put your WB in your other floppy and IBMDos
in the internal drive. Run IBeM000 from the external floppy, take out that
disk if you want to put in a progam disk. Programs that use the PC video
memory (I think that is what it is called) run super slow but simple
monochrome-only are O.K. with the 68000 processor. If I can get it to go,
you can.
Try not mounting di0: (or any di: devices). Then edit your mountlist
or mountlist.msdosFS to add IBMA: and IBMB: (Just use a text editor's copy
function to copy di0: info and change di0: to IBMA:). Then just run the
batch file included. It should work, but it is SLOW…
