#IRQ Blues?

I have a Kronos autoboot controller and a C Ltd. 48 meg hard drive that
recently crashed. I've salvaged the drive and low-level formatted it, DOS
formatted and restored all of the salvaged files.
However, I'm running into a problem I had when I first bought the drive:
whenever I have running through the SERial port and to the drive at the
same time, SERial communications burps. That is, a little garbage appears
on the port. Needless to say, this really cuts into UP/DOWnloading time.
I remember that Ed Lippert at C Ltd. had a quick fix for the problem (it
had something to do with allowing an IRQ (interupt request) somewhere in
the driver software.
I'd be very much obliged to anyone who knows a bit about the Kronos system,
if they could help me out here.

Good, hope it works. I can't remember all of the 'playing around' that I
did with that stuff. I know that it has been a few years since I did
change any of that. Seems like I remember that one of those flags was
changed when I went to the GVP controller for the "boot/system" disk, but
that may not be a correct recolection.

As a former Kronos owner, I suggest this with only the best of
intentions: the only way to cure your Kronos problems is to replace them!
I have heard that GVP, if called and asked nicely, will STILL trade your
card in ala their old trade-up offer. I did so, and I haven't had a lick
of trouble since, while the Kronos regularly came down with new problems.
Do yourself a favor, and ditch the beast. I know its fast, but reliablity
has its value as well. The Series II is practically plug 'n' play – you
can spend much more time doing "fun" stuff. Of course, it also supports
Commodore's SCSI standards, like the RDB…call them, and see if the trade
up can still be arranged!!

What you say is true IF you are not using the LazerXpress or ScanXpress. I
have both systems, so at least for now, it is necessary to keep the Kronos
in the machine. Since it is there, I also have one disk drive on the
controller. They all work fine and the Kronos co-resides just fine with
the GVP Series II.
