#Imagine and Motion Blur

Does Imagine have any "motion blur" capability or a way to set the frame
rate for animation. I'm trying to reduce the jerky appearance of an
exploding ball done with the explode special effect.

Wayne, I've never seen a 'motion blur' effect in Imagine. But can think of
several ways to simulate it….
1) *IF* you have a HAM-E unit, you can use their Image Professional
software, which has a built-in 'explode' motion blur effect. (also
'implode', 'linear', 'spiral' blurs, etc)
2) *IF* you have ADPro, you could simulate a motion blur by compositing 3-5
images over one another, reducing the composite percentage each time. An
ARexx program could be written to do this automatically; not too difficult.
I know my thoughts relate to two other products, which you may not have,
but it's all I can think of right now…. let me know if you have any
questions, etc…. good luck.

of course the ARexx solution, compositing several images with varying
degrees of transparency, is also feasable on Image Professional. I know you
know, but maybe Wayne doesn't know. (Well yeah, I'm sure he knows too, but
what about the new user down the street?)

You can also take the iamge as a brush, and then set it's transparency to
any desired value, and simply "paint" the transparency in IP.

I don't know anything about IP except it is available from BlackBelt for
HAM-E which I don't have. So don't hold back IP comments on my account.
I'm always anxious to hear about things I don't have that may provide a
capability I can use…

I also thought of going via Interchange to Sculpt 4d with each of the
images and then re-building the animation in Sculpt with the motion blur
set.
Just thought I'd check to be sure it was not a part of Imagine before
trying other methods. I will definitly arhive your suggestions. No HAM-E
here yet, but I do have Arexx (although I haven't bothered to learn it
yet).

Boy that 'blur' effect in Sculpt takes a LONG time. If I recall it just
does what we were talking about (combining several images) in its own way
(ie. the images are rendered 1st, then they are combined when all are
done).
Of the ways mentioned here, I'd favor the Image Professional, support
software for HAM-E by Black Belt. It's available here for downloading in
the Black Belt library. They say it's ok to 'try it out' before buying, to
get a feel for it. Be prepared to 'work blind' without a HAM-E to view the
image on, however 🙂
