I thought I could just live with this until 2.0 got out, but now it's
really getting on my nerves. Sometimes I can recover, but other times I
cannot even warm-boot out, but have to cold-boot. Is there any known
work-around or patch? Or would I just have to avoid the interlaced
workbench?

This is a "hack" fix for the Intuition screen problem that seems to pop
up when you have 2 interlace screens and a non-interlace screen, and
attempt to 'cycle' through them. 0btained from another network. My
initial test did seem to work (i.e., the system didn't crash in an
attempt to reproduce the problem). No guarentees, though.
I used this for a couple of years and it works fine.
This is unreliable.

Yes – the 1.3.3 upgrade fixes the problem completely, according to CATS.
It's also a *lot* better version of 1.3 than any of the earlier releases.

The problem with 1.3.3, tho, is that it is not generally available.

1.3.3 comes on disk with the A3000's. Would CBM be perterbed if an A3000
owner made those disks available to an A2000/1.3.2 owner?

Michael,
1.3.3 didn't come with my 3000, 1.3.2 did. And yes, CBM would take a dim
view of that. The best thing is to try to get the upgrade from your dealer.

My A3000 (got it last week) came with 1.3.3 disks (WB rev 34.34), so I just
assumed eveyones did.

You mean WorkBench 1.3.3 for non-3000 owners is available from dealers?
Haven't seen it mentioned before this thread started…did I miss something
along the way?

All our A500c have had it for the last month or so. I haven't heard any
word on upgrading though. I wish I knew, our store demo Amiga uses the
1.3.3 WB if I knew it would be ok, I'd just let people bring in their old
disks and copy the new ones over, but since I don't know how ol' C= would
feel about that, I've had to turn people away.

Believe me, it's ok to copy the new version to your customers. In fact
that appears to be the only way C= is authorizing users to get the new wb.
They are not packaging as a sellable upgrade, and they have not seen fit to
Upload it to the 4 (eerr, 3) national Boards like they did with 1.3.2, and
over in CBMservice they have suggested that users go to the dealer and ask
for a copy.
I would suggest you have your customers bring in two disks and then you
can copy both the WB disk and the Extras disk on to those disks.
You know, what's the problem here. This software can only be used with
the Amiga computer so therefore only Amiga owners are going to want it and
ALL Amiga owner, by rights, (IMHO) should be given the latest copy of the
OS. So, go ahead give it to everyone that comes in and asks for it.

Well I spoke to Carolyn Scheppner about this about three months ago. She
said that it is ok to upgrade 1.3 master disks at the dealership. We
(Video Computer Resources) have been upgrading users master workbench disks
for a while now.

I don't know if 1.3.3 is available from your dealer — I would think it is,
but I haven't looked for it. However, your dealer would be the best place
to start the search. Also, if you're a developer you can get it directly
from CATS.
Most dealers in So Cal when asked about it say, "oh, you mean 2.0 – its not
avaliable for the 2000 yet." Another peice in the Amiga marketting
massacre puzzle… ;^}

disk based machines, ie how do you know which files to replace ?

Russ, one way to upgrade between different versions is to go through and
check to see what programs have changed in filesize, usually that's a good
clue that the program has been upgraded. I think there is even a utility
that will check the files automatically, but for the life of me I can't
think of the name. But I do believe it was written by Jim Butterfield.

John, I think you are thinking of SysCheck. Should be in AmigaTech,
Library 11, and probably called SYSCHK.

Use a Disk Utility program and just replace those file that have changed
– Look at the date and file size.
With the upgrade 1.3.3 there are really only four or five file that have
changed. (Only 3 in the 'c' directory) I just replace those that had a
different date then all the others. Most files on C='s WB disk are dated
sometime in 1988 or 1989 while the new files in this release are all dated
in Oct. of 1990. Its really not to hard to spot the new files that make up
the 1.3.3 release.

I have been out of this thread for some time now myself and have
forgotten what my tip was ;(
Probably mentioned that WB1.3.3 does fix the intuition bug and that the
upgrade really only represents 3 new files in the "c:" directory and only a
couple of others in the other directories of WB.

Amiga Dos Version from workbech or CLI on my machine returns >Kickstart
version 34.5. Workbench version 34.28 I know I have Vers 1.3 and the Multi
Screen Problem how do I tell what release of 1.3 I have if Version wont
report it ? Where do I get 1.3.3 ?

there is an OS upgrade, 1.3.3, that (reportadly) has this bug fixed. Find
it, and install it. That's best. There is a PD fix, but it does not work
reliably… sometimes, you still lock up.
Me, I stopped using the interlaced WB, gritting my teeth at the neccesity,
but I no longer have the problems.
Of course, preferences still crashes my machine, but can't do anything
about that one. Yet.
Still waiting for 2.x to be released. :^(

There is a patch within v1.3.3 which solves this problem and, if you
haven't got 1.3.3, there is FIXSCR (lib 11?) which you might like to try.
However, I'm not entirely sure it is 100% reliable.

Ben says FIXSCR is unreliable and it well may be. However, I used it in my
startup-sequence for over 2 years (on a 2000 with flickerfixer) and never
had the lockup again.

I just got the New WorkBench today, did you know there is also a new
Preferences on that disk.
Actually after examining the disk with my installed WB (1.3.2) there are
really very few files that are new (I compared file size and dates). Most
of the new ones are file dated 10/03/90 with a few in at 10/05/90. I think
the were less the a dozen new files on that disk. Three in the 'C'
directory; Echo, LoadWB, and (of course) SetPatch. In 'devs' we have a
new printer.device and parallel.device. And in the 'libs' a new
translator.library, and (again, of course) version.library.
Then over in the 'Prefs' the only thing with a new date there is
"Preferences". So me question to you Sir is this, Have you tryed the new
Preferences and if so why does Prefs still crash your machine.?
