I didn't realize that 8mm was made for editing. Interesting tidbit.
You make a good point about the Toaster and the 3/4" decks – I hadn't
thought of that. It'll certainly be interesting to see which way things go.

The Hi-8 and 8mm formats were not made for editing too they where made to
edit from… i.e. aquisiton. They are great at this and are a great way to
go… the Dual Hi-8 editor is very nice and Sony has been doing some three
day seminars using the editor, the toster and DXC-527 truely a nice system.
The biggest problem with 8mm is that the tapes do not hold up well in
editting and it is sugested that you go to a better format i.e. BetaCam…
I do not agree that U-matic 3/4 inch will suffer a "resugence" because the
Toaster dosn't have S-Video conectors althogh it is true your always better
to use componet in-outs composite will not suffer that much to make a major
differance… If you you have questions as to this being true try an
S-Video vs Composite dub for yourself and then remember that these effects
are only going to utilized in 10 to 20 % of your production anyway.
