I understand the Japanese situation; I had several semesters of Japanese language, literature and politics in college. However, I remain a staunch free-trader. No matter how you slice it, in my eyes, US protectionism only hurts the US, not Japan; and Japan's eagerness to capture markets with cheap chips only benefits everyone who wants to buy chips. Then you're happy with monopolies…right? As long as the price is low at first…what it costs in the long run makes no difference to you?
