As one of your authors…I felt I was treated just fine by you
folks in the UK. Far better than the folks (well…one in
particular…from that unmentioned publishing house) in Canada treated me.
So don't feel too sad about the treatment of authors. I understood
what was going on, why and knew you personally did the best you could under
trying circumstances.
And yes, I too would have liked to see the rebirth of
Transactor…too bad it couldn't have been done.

You mean you actually got paid by Transactor/UK? That's the one area in
which I think at least some of the authors were mis-treated. I know I
never received any payment from them for the article of mine that they
published. Never even got an "author's copy" either.

Bob, Dave paid very promptly (though skimpily) for a while. Then, he
stopped paying just about the time you sent your article. I was paid for
some, but not for all.
At least I was stiffed for a small amount of money. <grin>

Yes…I got paid for several of the columns. In fact, I think they
were only one payment behind when they went under. I also got author
copies (just took a quick check and found 5 differnt UK author copies).
Perhaps they treated those of us who had a monthly column
differently thaan those who had occasional articles?
My biggest problem with them was they paid in Pounds Sterling and I
had to take the check to my bank and get it converted first…I couldn't
just drop it in a deposit envelope or ATM. That was no real problem…my
bank was happy to accept it for immediate deposit based on the exchange
rate the day I brought it in.

I think you'll find that the "regulars" got treated a wee bit better than
the one-offs … why? Because I'm sure Dave thought that if he didn't pay
his regulars, he would soon have _nobody_ writing for him!! He also seemd
to be a little more arganised with addresses for the regulars (despite my
constantly sending him names and addresses)
He had also started setting up a US bank account to cope with the problems
of dollar-payments. Some had greater problems than others.

That was exactly what I was meaning!! I do know that some did get paid,
and some did get author's copies … but many did not. I did everything
within my power to get it sorted out, with only _very_ limited success.
As Betty would confirm, I was extremely unhappy about that situation, and
acutely embarassed at times … but it was so very much out of my control.
_I_ know that the authors of a magazine are its major investment (after
advertisers, I guess!) and they should be treated as Royalty.
