#3000 and Novell

Greetings all, I work for a Novell reseller and we have a 3000
coming, if Commodore will ever ship it. I know they used to sell an
Ethernet card and Novell client software for the 2000. As I understand it,
they have discontinued the Novell client software so I'm wondering what my
Novell connectivity options are. We run Novell 386 3.11 in-house which
supports TCP/IP but it won't support the Amig file system. Anyone have any
amigas talking to Netware 386? I'm curious as to what others have done to
use their Netware servers and would appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Gregg.
They haven't discontinued the Novell client software… They haven't
shipped it yet!

You have been mis-informed about C= selling Novell client software.
When the Novell software IS available, you will (MUST) use the Macintosh
filename extension. I bug was found recently (within the last two weeks)
in which a Novell network was installed withOUT the Mac-filename-length
extension added, and the 1st time a call was made to WRITE a file with a
'big name' the server crashed….taking ALL the files with it. I presume
Novell is working to fix this bug.
Correction:
It only wiped out the log-in directory that was in use at the time. I
mis-understood the overheard comment. It still lost tens of megabytes tho.
Thanks for the reply Vic. I had thought it was out since it appeared
in my dealer's catalog. I also think I remember seeing a picture of Syscon
running on an Amiga in Amigaworld or Amazing Amiga. Interesting they'll be
using the MAC name space, I didn't think there was enough similarity for
that to be practical. If Commodore will ever ship us an 3000 I'll get to
try out a few options and see if I can connect via TCP/IP and store files
under the MAC name space. I wish they'd take networking more seriously.
I've heard some people are using 3000s as graphics terminals on Unix boxes
and VAXes although those same people are most likley running AMUX. Later,

Well, if you're gonna put filenames >30 characters out there, it's for
darn sure that the PC 8.3 won't handle it. That's the only reason I'm
aware of for using the MAC name space.

What else can you tell us about the State of Novell Client software for the
Amiga ? Are there any native Amiga NICs out ? Alternatively is there a way
to make the Amiga side talk to a standard ISA BUS NIC in a BB slot without
a BB ?

Yes, there are at least two (2) NICs out there. At least one Ethernet
and at least one Arcnet.
