Ya, But remember Deluxe Paint itself Chews up a good portion of Chip RAM.
You CANNOT open a 640X680 16 color page on DPAINT III with a 512K chip RAM
FROM the Dpaint Workbench–Maybe from CLI, but I havent tried it.

Deluxe paint should not (not to say that it doesn't) "chew up chip
ram". It only needs chip for the display… at least, if you're not
animating. Other use, such as undo buffers in chip ram, are wasteful
in the extreme… they wouldn't be THAT stupid, even if they are EA.
I think.
What ever the reason, If I boot up with the Dpaint disk, and run it from
their workbench, I CANNOT open a 640X680 16 color screen. It'll let me
open a 640X650 screen but not any larger. Workbench itself takes up some
chip ram, and even though Dpaint closes workbench, I wonder if it frags it
so that Dpaint can't open that size of a screen? In any case on a 640X650
screen I'm left with about 75k chip ram according to the ABOUT menu item.
All of this really doesn't matter to me anymore since I just installed a
Fat Agnus on my 500. Boy that was an experience. The cutting of the
jumpers wasn't so bad, but the soldering (Never was very good at it) was a
bitch. Then after I put it back together and turn on the power–NOTHING,
absolutly nothing. No power light, no green, blue, whatever color
screen-just blackness and a sinking feeling in my gut. Finally I take it
apart again look over everything, can't find anything that looks wrong, put
it back together and it works GREAT! Don't know what I did, or what was
wrong but it's been working fine ever since. Next time though I'm going to
have someone else do it. (No fun kicking yourself in the pants)
I just did the Fatter upgrade myself also on my 2000. Cutting on my
motherboard was about as hard as bungie jumping. I would also have someone
do it for me if I needed done again. But Wow! very convienient to have
several programs open and working on the same files! BTW Dpaint always
seemed to run out of chip ram too quickly on my machine also.

YEs, very nice, I was playing railRoad Tycoon, while I had Whap!
downloading all these messages. 1 Meg Chip RAM IS very nice!
