#Help-Harddrive Problema

Here's a weird one. I bought a used GVP external drive for my Amiga 500.
Installed it, got it going. The person who sold it to me put a barebones
system on it, two partitions. The drive has the fasstrom installation, the
Amiga has the updated roms. I was attempting to also install another
external Scsi drive. Could not get that to work so gave up. As a last ditch
effort, I used the GVP Faastprep program in manual mode to turn "last
drive" off. I left everything else alone. The I hit the write button in
Faast Prep and rebooted. Now, I get software task held/then the guru,
100004, 002092B0. I don't get the version # of Amiga Dos. So tried it with
the autoboot switch on the drive off, it reads all the memory (2 megs in
the drive) and works fine there but doesn't show the drive as an Icon. I
expected that? How do I get my disk drive back? I don't mind reformatting
the drive but how can I if the prep software doesn't recognize it?

The best way is to contact GVP, they can give you specific
instructions on how to take care of your problem.

If you are able to boot your computer from the GVP floppy, can't you use
that to start up the FastPrep software from the Icon and then go in to
change that "Last drive" command? You should be able to get everything
going again if you can boot your computer using the floppy drive.

If I boot from the floppy, I have to toggle the autoboot switch down on the
drive. The Fasstprep software does not show or recognize the Harddrive. It
sees my controller and flops but no harddrive. If I boot with the autoboot
switch up and flop in DF0:, the machine gurus. Looks like its checking the
HD first, then the floppy but then I get task held and the guru.
I am not sure that I really understand what is going on with your system
but a suggestion anyway. Boot from the GVP floppy and run faastprep. If
that does not recognize the HD then try running gvpmount.
GVP gave me some instructions from their support BBS. However because I
can't reach their support during Eastern hrs on land lines, its been
awkward. They recommended running two shells, try Binddrivers first, then
FaaastPrep. Problem is Binddrivers hangs my 500 and I can access the other
shell to run Faastprep. They intimated I did something foul to the RDB but
I can't run Faastprep without it looking for the GVPScsi.driver and I can't
run Binddrivers. I'm stuck. I'll try the gvpmount, see what that does. It
does recognize the two megs of ram that are in the drive case.
Well, of course they are the experts. I can't imagine why binddrivers
would hang your system. I think I might be for rebuilding your WB floppy.
Maybe even recopying the dealer's disks (if necessary).
With the Autoboot off, I should think that you could both mount and run
FaastPrep without problem. It is beginning to sound to me like something
else if bad (maybe a library, handler or copy of the device driver).
Well, I'll try almost anything but it is bizaare.
