#Hard Drive Woes…
5 messages in this thread
HELP! I have an A2000 w/ 9 MEG of RAM, a toaster,& Quantum 40MB HD. I
have put the WB2.04 files on the HD partition (SYS:) and boot off a floppy
under 1.3 to load the 2.04 kickstart with Z-Kick, the machine re-boots from
the HD under 2.04. I have just added to external SCSI drives to my 2091
controller. The first is an Seagate ST-296N, the second is a Quantum
Q-250. Here's the problem…
When I try to copy large files (10+MEG) to the external drives, the machine
crashes… I originally formatted the drives with HDToolBox under 2.04.
If I just boot 1.3, the drives will crash less frequently (but they still
make the machine crash). I re-formated them under 1.3, a little more of
the problem went away, but it is still there… I tried playing with
MAXTRANSFER in HDToolBox but it doesnt seem to help…
If anyone has ANY suggestions, please plass them along… Thanks in
advance…

Sam,
Memory tells me that early versions (or perhaps most versions) of
the 2091 had problems with having multiple drives attached. I believe the
fix was a new ROM for the board…but could be wrong on that.

Don:
Do you happen to know what the current revision of the 2091 ROMs are? I
have a few 2091's (for sale), and they all have the 6.6 ROM which I think
is the latest ROM, but I'm not 100% sure. Thanks.

Mike,
6.6 is the most current 2091 ROMs.

Sam,
First, Check your 2091's ROMs and make sure you have version 6.6. If you
don't then get them.
Secondly, Why are you still using ZKick to load 2.0? From your message
it sounds like you may still be using a beta version of 2.0 which could
very easily be causing your crashing problems.
