#MMR HELP!

I need help with my Mega Midget Racer! I've got a 2000HD with Megachip
2000 installed as well as Flicker Free video. This leaves no room for the
MMR. I used a socket extender to raise the MMR above the other boards, but
now I can't put the bracket that holds the power supply & drives back on!
One solution is to put the MMR in the space on the bracket that'd hold the
floppy drive (below the 2 other drives). However, I'd need a short cable
from the cpu socket to the MMR. First, is such a cable availabe or can it
be made? Second, is this idea feasible or will it mess up the cpu?

weel i have the same problem as you. I bought a ROM switcher which was
advertised as compatible with the MMR ,it's not it bend the board too much
so i am not using the rom switcher. A nice thing to have will be that CSA
will manufacture a board that will fit in the cpu slot and will let us
mount our MMR on it.If somebody is aware of such a device let me know i
will definetely buy one. Bye Michel

Call CSA and describe your configuration to them, they have a standoff
that is the correct size to make the MegaChip and the MMR fit together
_under_ the drive bays. I know that many people have just the setup you do
that are operating without problems.

Actually, it's the Flicker Free Video board that's in the way.
Specifically, the little plug in the board that the cable to the video
output connects to. With the socket extender in place, I'd have no trouble
with MMR and MegaChip 2000 taking up the same space. But with Flicker Free
Video plugged in the MMR has a very definite 'slant' to it (I don't think
it seats all the way, and besides the top don't go on!). I'll try calling
CSA again, they seem to be very busy people these days! Anyway, is the
short extension cable idea feasible?

I would, if at all possible, NOT put the MMR on a cable of any length.
Doing that is asking for major problems with crosstalk between signals on
the cable.
Try calling ICD and seeing if they have a version of the FFV that works
better with the MMR. If I remember the FFV right, it has a cable connector
that could be replaced with one that comes off at a right angle instead of
the straight one that is there. That might bring the height down low enough
to let the MMR sit level.
Have you tried describing the problem to CSA? They have been quite
helpful in resolving these types of problems before for others.

Well, CSA suggested that I might have the FFV on a socket extender (it
comes with a couple), but I checked & it isn't. Also, the cable coming off
the FFV board is at a right angle to the board (it's flat). Right now
everything is plugged in & running, but I can't get the drive and power
supply bracket back on. And even if I could, I don't see at all how I'd
add memory chips to the MMR board. There's just no room at all! They also
said do NOT mess with cables because of timing problems (and interference).
All I can do now is run it with all its guts hanging out until I can come
up with a bracket solution. I thought about cutting away the part of the
bracket that's in the way, but part of it is directly under the power
supply. Maybe I should look into a tower case for the 2000! Anybody got
ideas?

Ahh, you must have the memory board for the MMR. There are a couple of
different tower cases for the A2000. One of them may solve your problems,
though you'd have to be real careful about tying the MMR down into place
since hanging the motherboard vertically is likley to make things a bit
touchy.
Is there any reason you went with the MMR in the first place? You have
an A2000 which has a slot meant specifically for an accellerator which is
definitly the best place to put an accellerator. It also reduces the kind
of problems you are having.

I went with MMR because of price. It appears the problems it's causing
aren't worth the money saved. I may look into another accellerator, if I
can find a taker for MMR!
I think I'll pass on the tower case idea. I didn't know hanging the
mother board vertically would cause problems.
