#Global Fog
19 messages in this thread
Ok, what am I doing wrong? I'm trying to get a global fog going but I
just can't seem to get it to work. I've typed in a variety of numbers for
the fog length and get nothing. I've tried different colors and still
nothing. Whats going on?
Randy.
globle fog Can be a bit tricky. you must set an uper limit and a lower
limit. it will not show aginst the background sky only objects. the lenght
should be about the distance to 50% obscuring. the collor realy don't seem
to matter. start with small numbers and work your way up.

I thought it didn't matter if you set a upper/lower limit. At least
thats what Steve Worley says. I'm also pretty sure that I tried setting
limits. I'll try again though. I probably didn't and just think I did.
Talk later..
Randy.
BTW, I talked to Steve Worley yesterday on land lines. Essence is sitting
on disk in his home, he is ready to ship next week. Maybe you should wait
and see if Essence has something you can use – lots of fractal textures.
I'm looking for a dust object and I can't wait on Impulse. :').
I've heard something about Essence but don't really know what it is. Is
it just a bunch of brush maps or something like that?
Randy.
No its a bunch of texture maps – algorithmic textures. SWorley got together
with TDDD or is it TTDD and made a disk(s) with these new textures. Someof
them sound very nice – fractality etc. They are small in size and much more
economical and better looking to use than brus maps.
I just received my order form in the mail today. It looks great! I'm
definately going to mail off that order form today. Later…
Randy.
Yes, I got my order form yesterday. The check is in the mail. I have by no
means maxed out Impulse's texture offerings but I think it is great that
Steve is adding some more. The more the better. I'm really looking for more
textures that look interesting on the ground plane.
Yeah, me to. Always looking for a neat effect on the ground. Have you
tried the spots texture. Thats one of my favorite ones. Oh well, later…
Randy.
I use the spots a lot with the ground. That is sort of why I want something
else that is random but will tile back to the horizon. I particularly like
spots on a chrome ground,
That is what his book said, but….. I can't get it to work with out it.

Well it we seem that even the great Steve has faults. Oh well, as least
I can get the fog objects to work.
Randy.
ya may have yer Fog Bottom and Top Set to high too low for the camera to
pick it up or they may be too close values, try -100 for Fog bottom and 100
for fog Top as a test and set yer camera pointing at 0,0,0
Like I said in the last message, I'll pump in some numbers in those
boxes. Could have sworn that if you just leave the values as zero, then its
a total global fog. Anways, thanks for the help. I tell yah guys how it
turned out.
Randy.
Hope it works out for ya dude.
Well, I stuck in -10,000 and 10,000 in the boxes and didn't get anything.
Oh well, it dosn't really matter anymore anyways. I moving on to another
animation now. Later…
Randy.
Thats pretty Wild,Did you set the Color to Something other than Black?
Really Strange I've used FOG a few times and had no problems other than
maybe having to adjust the fog length
MIDGARD GRAPHICS, CREATORS OF QUALITY ANIMATION.
The color of my fog was a grey. I'll have to play with it later when I
have a use for it again.
Randy.
Good luck,I hope ya get yer FOG to work
