ppage 3 & legal

Phillip,
Remember my problem about printing legal length to an NEC LC890 ?
well…… the printer has just had a workshop session with NEC's
technicians and has passed with flying colours (spelt correctly!)
WordPerfect printed legal to it perfectly.
Are you really sure that PPage 3.0 dosn't have a problem with legal ?
Having made a real fuss with NEC I am feeling a bit foolish, the printer
checks out ok.
Regards,
Andrew
Andrew,
Thanks for leaving a message, I have meaning to ask you about the NEC
problem but kept forgetting.
I have just recently moved and set-up my workstation at home. I will try to
printout a number of different size pages to see what happens.
One thing I would like to check is if you are using the "PAL" or "NTCS"
version. There really isn't any difference in apperance, just the page
genies and the default page should produce A4 size pages compared to North
American letter. I don't know if this would make a difference but I thought
I should find out.
If you would like to attach another file to a message, by-all-means please
do. Try printing the document to double check the error, then save it as a
PPAGE document and send me the entire document. That way when I open it, it
will have all the same setting you used.

PS: Congrats! on the article in Amiga Format, very nice.
Philip,
I'll prepare another test file, give it a try here first, then u/l it. At
least I now know that its NOT the printer !
Didn't know you took Amiga Format over the pond….. glad you liked it, it
was a bit of fun. Now where did I put my dark glasses……

Is there a way to print a legal sized page with PPage 3 on a deskjet 500? I
sure couldn't figure it out. I had to make a postscript file and print
from POST last time I tried. I just kept getting the top of the page.
What's the secret?
Jim,
If you are using WB1.3 you are limited to an area of about 8×10" even if
you are using a legal size page.
If you are under WB2.0 you can set your page size under workbench prefs to
legal and set the `output page size ' to 8 x 14 and print.

Thanks, Philip. I am using 2.00. Is this information about changing the
prefs to legal in the manual? I must have missed it, though I think I did
that. I will try again.
Jim,
The manual does not really mention this…this occures because of the
AUTOTILE feature that was added in PPAGE3.0…because of the autotile, we
had to know what the max. printable area of your preference printer driver
is. PPage will read this and restrict you to this size.
If your WB prefs are set to letter, the driver sets a max. to 8"x10".
It is important to remember that the AMIGA PREFS has settings that are read
by programs and you must make the changes to PREFS if you change something
like paper size.

Thanks, I will try to remember that!
Andrew,
Actually, the Amiga UK mags are VERY popular in North America (well Canada
anyway).
Most of the computer stores carry them, as well as some bookstores (usually
without the ever popular disk).
They can be rather expensive, running as high as $14 canadian.
The UK mags offer a very different perspective on the Amiga world…it
seems you are not afraid to admit a large portion of Amigas are for game
playing, as well as business use.
