Why can't I view a FLC?

I've been unable to view a FLC file from the Keyframer. I use the Renderer, View, Flic menu option, and specify the FLC file. I get a quick (*very* quick) flash on the screen (the flash is barely noticable) and I'm back to the Keyframer screen. I can play the FLC using ANIPLAY (in DOS) and AAWIN (in Windows), but not in 3DS. I've never been able to do this. This particular FLC is a 300 frame animation. Any suggestions? (I'm using 2.01.) Thanks, Dirk

You are running into the famous 3DS FLIC viewing problem. What videoboard are you using (ATI or Diamond 24x or S3 I bet)<g>

I have an inexpensive Trident SVGA board. I think it uses the TVGA 8900 chip. I didn't know this was a recurring problem with 3DS. Eventually I will want to record my animations to tape, and I'll probably use the Magni VGA Producer Pro to convert to NTSC. What SVGA board do you recommend using in this type of a setup? (This is all self-produced stuff for small-scale distribution. It's not "broadcast quality." I'll be using a standard VHS deck to record, for the time being.)

Dirk: PMJI, but if you are going this route, you might want to consider one of the external boxes that will take in 24 bit color, also. The Magni maxes out at 8 bit. Then get one of the "under $400" cards (Hercules Graphite) and you will be able to record a few stills at 24 bit, and then also your animation ar 8 bit in the same video. And now with 16bit playback approaching quickly, you won't be obsolete as soon as you buy the equipment! This will give you a lot more flexibility in the future for not much more $$ right now. Thanks Greg. I'd probably be better off waiting for a while. I don't really have the need for the converter right now. I will probably end up buying converter hardware and a new video card in six months or so. Dirk
