Well, I've been playing around with Post. I changed the PS output specs in
Ppage to landscape and the large file doesn't guru any more, but then
again, it puts out an empty page, which doesn't help. Why the small file
didn't guru with out the change I'll never know. Post seems a little flakey
in general. It would not add "Hevetica" to a font list in one PS file and
called the font "Triumvirate" in the file. I had to go in and change it.
I have yet to figure out the Post WB screen which one gets if you boot from
WB. If I type in the file after "init.ps", which is already in the box, I
get a message "unknown file init.ps <my file>". If I "run" it from the CLI
I get the screen without the "init.ps" in the box, but when I try to print
to screen or printer I get "error: invalidfont, command –findfont–"
(files I know will print in Post.) If I try anything in the interactive
screen, I can't get out of it and have to reboot if I want to try something
new in Post.

Gracia, To get out of interactive in Post just type Quit. That is the
postscript command. I tried a landscape page in post today after we talked.
I set my default page in PPage to 11 x 8.5, went into Postscript Output
Specs and clicked on Landscape. The outline of the page area reconfigured
itself to the new page dimension. Before it was not aligned with the page.
I just centerd some text in the one box and set the point size to 72.
Printed this to a postscript file and had it download the font to the file.
I then loaded up Post's user interface. I typed in init.ps in the
startup-file list, clicked on printer, when I did this Post got my GFX
printer preferences from Prefs. I'm using Pixels, my X dimension is 2448
and Y is 3204, legal would be Y = 4104. Post redrew its display window to
an 8.5 x 11 page. I then loaded the file and Post output it to screen just
fine. Of course it was displayed in the vertical plane. After about another
20 seconds Post output that screen to my printer. If came out just fine.
Post gets a lot of its information from the printer settings in your WB
preferences. It is best to set these up instead of relying on setting them
for each Post session. You can set the same thing up I just described
without using the screen or GUI. Just like you do in Shell, but I prefer to
look over the screen display. Make sure you set the DPI to 300. I believe
that is Printer density #4.

Thanks, between you and Mike Todd I should get this figured. Will try all
advice tomorrow and see what I come up with. Now if I could get my modem to
work all would be heaven. Twice tonight it signed on and clicked
off…zap…just like that. Grrrrrr.

When you get the on-screen-interactive POST up and running, you need to
have init.ps in the first box, and the name of your own file in the second
box … and so on.
However, if you just use init.ps there, you can run your own .ps file by
selecting `run file' and selecting the file in the requester.
So, start up with init.ps in the command line, and then add your own
filename manually or RUN it … without init.ps being run first, POST
doesn't know how to find fonts!
When you are in interactive mode, you can get out by pressing CTRL-\
(back-slash) or QUIT t get out of interactive mode … and then menu-select
the QUIT option.
I've now been using POST for a long time, and the one thing I could never
describe it (from my experiences) is `flakey' … I only run it under 1.3,
but I'm told it works just as well under 2.0 … so I can't for the life of
me work out why you're having so many problems. I can only assume that the
difference between my setup (an Amiga A1000/2MegRAM/1.3) and yours has the
clue.

Hi Mike,
I don't believe you're using a 1000 with 2 meg!! My first born. I still
have my 1000 with 2.5 meg but no hard drive. It's a great machine still….
just haven't used it lately. Got spoiled by 3000's HD.
I swear to you I saved a file to disk with my letter head in "Helena" and
the body in "Triumvirate". I had save many letters before with no trouble.
This time it refused to accept "Triumvirate" as "Helvetica". At least I
know how to fix that problem and now, between all my CI$ helpers and my
PostScript book I should be able to do better. Tomorrow (it's the middle of
the night now) I'll try all your advice and see what I can learn. Thanks
