I'm not sure if your aware or not, but Fractal Design is taking orders
for the new "X2 extentions" for Painter 2.0. This will give
Painter full multilayer support among other things (can't find the flyer
right now)… my order is already placed! At the rate they're going with
improvements, it won't be long before Painter is the only paint/retouching
program I'll ever need to use.

Painter is the BEST program I've ever seen. We use Wacom (422e and 510c)
tablets with it's real painting (and I think that BETTER than Lumena -I've used
Lumena only during two months, but I do more things in my first 5 minutes with
Painter 1.2 than in the whole two months with Lumena 🙂 This extensions for the
2.0 are really good news. Thanks!

Hi again, David. For all who are wondering about the Altamira Composer price I
just look for the 1993 Truevision's Source Book and find it for $995!!! I don't
know if this price will go down in the final release (BTW, that's what I call
Vaporware) but if not, and specially after hearing the good news about Painter,
I can't see its future in my hard drive 🙂 Anyway, I have to wait for the real
copy to evaluate.

No, in anyway I want to throw it to the sharks. I haven't see it yet. However,
since I've only got my impressions from the comments in the forum and when I
saw the price in the TV SourceBook I only thought that it's a little overpriced
for just the multilayer support. Anyway, I will wait for it.

You are correct, if that was all it did it would be overpriced! However, it
is more than that.
To quote the illustrious Jack Powell:
"Altamira Composer is an image composition application. It provides
filters, transformations, image processing, paint tools, splines, and much
more. But its unique characteristic is its ability to cut out irregularly
shaped images from standard, rectangular pictures, and then combine the new
images as raster objects.
Instead of painting on a single, fixed image, you work with many images that
you move, group, process, and manipulate using the functions in Altamira
Composer. It is this combination of images that becomes your composition."
He then goes on to discuss the exceptional use of the alpha channel, and the
use of many levels of transparency available to you to keep perfectly
antialiased edges around the borders of all of the individual images, no
matter how you move them around.
