Hard Drives International sells the Texel (they advertise it as a "Talon
200" – Talon is their private label). Their deal is quite good, $549 for
the drive, a FD 850M SCSI-2 adapter, Software Toolworks Encyclopedia (1992
editition), Desk Reference Library and Game Pak II and a pair of
headphones. The documentation provided is copious and clearly written.
The tech support is excellent and their support and return policies are
liberal. (Get the feeling I like these guys?) Seriously – I bought mine
from them and recommend them highly. The Texel is a great unit – I have
timed it against the NEC 84 (Texel was 15% faster), the Toshiba 3301 (Texel
blew it away) and a Sony 31A (it wasn't even close). The 3204 (internal)
and 5204 (external) are the fastest drives I've seen, they are XA mode 2
compatable and can do continuous reads (important for video). You can't go
far wrong with these units.
