NEC CDR74 & Gateway
5 messages in this thread
I'm having a dickens of a time getting the NEC CDR-74 sound system (I think
it's a Spectrum card) to work on my brand new Gateway 486DX2-66V.
Here are some of the known problems.
In Carmen Sandiego the sound either does not work at all or works at best
on an occassion and unpredictable basis. (You hear the voices–it doesn't
seem to affect music–some of the time and the rest of the time you see the
figure move his mouth but no voice cometh forth).
I can't even get Sherlock I to come up with an opening screen.
In Windows the sounds connected to events (start windows, exit windows,
etc.) start but never end. The system freezes up and the machine needs a
boot to get it unfrozen.
If anyone knows how to get around this problem, your comments would be
most appreciated. Thanks.
If you have a Pro Audio Spectrum card GO MEDIAVISION and D/L the latest
drivers.
Walter, Setup Carmen for the SB and AdLib, the PAS wouldn't work for me
either.

NEC's tech assitance line tells me that the NEC MULTIMEDIA GALLERY (using
the CRD 74 and supplied sound card) does not work with the Gateway 4DX2-66V
system. I have verified this. Are you having similar problems?
Hi,
I am getting a Gateway 2000 486/66DX2 system and trying to decide on which
CDROM to get. Have you heard of any hardware conflicts with the Texal 3042
or Toshiba 3401?
Anyone else out there who has this configuration and knows it works?
