I tested SmerFF output in the Windows 3.1 Media Player, and… (gulp!),
I didn't have any problems. I am trying to get a copy of Encore and try that,
too. If it "barfs," I'll let you know. (More clues, maybe?)
As for your measure numbers problem, we have tested on both 2.1 and
2.04. Thanks for the info. I will keep working with it.

Hi Adam,
It seems most of the Passport software gags on the smerff MIDI files, this
would include Encore, Mastertracks & Trax.
I'm going to try and import smerff files on my PC (CakewalkDOS & Wincake).
I'll post results if anyone's interested.
I had been importing smerff (who names this stuff.. :> ) files into KCS
because I'm a little wary of muffy/smerff. Actually the latest version of
smerff may be fine, I need to test it.
I'm curious if you're going to try and port B&P_Pro over to Windows, that
would seem to be a mammoth job. I can't imagine how the PC could handle all the
real-time information, screen updates etc…

Hi Howard!
Thanks for the Passport information. In addition to the MIDI file
problems you mentioned, I have had many reports of syncronization problems from
their products, as well. Let me know if you discover anything else of
interest…
As for our future plans for Windows, I am not able to disclose anything
specific, but I can promise you that we have some amazing things planned.
Watch out for them!

re: Smerff > Passport MIDI files.
I successfully imported smerff MIDI files into Cakewalk DOS, & WinCake.
Actually, the only products I've had problems importing into are the Passport
sequencers etc. However a MIDI file saved from KCS imports into Master Tracks
without problems. I'll try importing into Vision (MAC) later today.
Although I inquired about Windows software I have to say I'm not much of a PC
fan, (no pun intended) I use them only when necessary. I will, however,
continue to support the Blue Ribbon Amiga product line.
I upgraded B&P_Pro (via patch) and found the quantize tool had stopped
working, has that been reported? 2.0 > 2.0b

Actually, the Quantize tool has been updated. It should not have stopped
working; instead, it should have worked better! Keep in mind that the patch
program does not automatically copy the new tools over to you. You must bring
them over seperately. (I believe the README file accompanying the patch
explains how to do this…) Make sure you have the latest Quantize tool and
let me know if you still have problems. Thanks!

Thanks for the info. At one time the upgrade patch (sans tools) had been
uploaded to another well known commercial BBS of which I am a member and asst.
sysop & Amiga topic leader. I didn't know about the updated tools until I
signed on and registered with the Blue Ribbon BBS.
I've recently added the Sunrize AD516 to my system, it seems to be working
pretty well with v 2.0a. Have any problems been reported with the AD516 tools
after upgrading to 2.0b. I'm a bit hesitant to jump into 2.0b, I'm just now
getting 2.0a up to the speed I was at with 1.0e. (If you can follow that
<grin>).
Are there any known problems with the sequencing/editing portion of 2.0b,
right now I'm not concerned with the multi-media tools, etc.

**There haven't been any new problems associated with 2.0b from 2.0a.

**No known probs… In fact, it solves several problems inherent to 2.0a
which caused extra C#0 notes to appear out of nowhere…

I'll log onto the BR BBS tonight and download the full 2.0b upgrade.
One feature I'll be glad to have back, is the bounding box that remains active
even when scrolled off screen.

I deeply appreciate the efforts. I also apologize that my own schedule
has delayed my own verification attempts. I did finally get to
reinstall both B&P and SuperJAM! yesterday and (drum roll, please…)
*ELIMINATED* both the measure-numbering problem and the failure to
autostart SuperJAM!
This is *not* a complete story, though, as I haven't yet discovered
at what point the problem occurred. As soon as time permits, I'll
reconfigure my system- one step at a time- to my preferred setup.
(That is, change directories for styled, programs, songs, and so on.)
If there's an implicit limitation somewhere in the software, I hope
to discover it for you. This is *not* a phantom, and finding it will
obviate someone else's eventual discomfort…
WRT the SmerFF problem, which type Standard Midi File did you try? Since
Encore accepts only type I, that's my real focus. (Shoulda mentioned that,
eh?) Betcha tried type 0, huh? The syndrome with Encore is a fatal "divide
by zero" error at the end of the last track. With Media Player its a final
endlessly sustained note.

Oh, and for you folks who haven't a clue as to what we're discussing: Blue
Ribbon products include not only an infinitely flexible sequencer, but
also a "compositional assistant" (like Band-in-a-Box, but *better*) and a
universal patch librarian (the PatchMeister) which can both be totally
integrated with the sequencer. IOW, my sequence can automatically set up
my patch bay and all my synths, and also include a "programmed"
autoaccompaniment for drums, rhythm, bass, pads, or whatever combination
of the above I wish. Do you see why I feel serious (well, semi-serious,
anyway) sorrow when some of the above is missing???
