G. I have been just rendering with out setting any background color.
Do I actually have to set it to RGB 0,0,0 ?
thanks

You don't have to set it to 0,0,0… no background is the same thing.
DonL's points are excellent…. PLUS, the CORRECT way to do this is with an
alpha matte in an ABC-roll environment by shoving the matte into the switchers
key channel. 3D Studio produces a perfect matte by rendering in 32-bit mode
and turning Alpha-Split ON.

Gary,
Regarding this zero black and overlay issue, I'm sure you have seen the
"no-external" antialiasing feature of Topas (actually I don't know the name).
It simply antialiases only object to object limits when rendering to a black
background in order to use it later with live video overlay or paint programs.
It doesn't use antialiasing between objects and black background. Well, I don't
know if I have explained it well, but I'm sure you know about it. It sounds
like a good feature for future 3ds releases, hmm? (or probably is in r2 and I
haven't notice it 🙂

Sorry… but as usual I can't comment on anything related to a future release.
Take care,

Now there's another recipe for the same trick I can use. Thanks Gary.
