D1 Digital Framebuffer

For those of you following the ABACUS/EXABYTE dialog, there is a new frame
buffer from TrueVision called the ATVista Digital which is conicidently 720 X
486 Hmmmm… perfect for those D1 applications and it provides 4:2:2:4 digital
video in and out of your PC, and includes drivers for guess what… Right! Do
you think these guys know what they're doing or what?! -JE

Isn't this the same capablity as the Matrox Illuminator Pro but for
more money? I don't know the technical details between the two, but the CCIR
601 version of the PRO does the same resolution and 4:2:2 conversion. It also
has a digital output daughter board.
Martin – I was not aware of this feature with the Illuminator Pro, my
understanding was (and sketchy at that) the Pro was basically just like the
Targa 64+, ie dual framebuffers. The ATVISTA digital is 4:2:2:4 but I assume
the daughter card on the PRO takes care of the later. If you have any more
information on the CCIR 601 Version and what the difference is, please pass it
along, I think that this is an important area to keep informed on. -JE

Basically it comes down to this, as I know you've been following the
ASDG thread. If you are interested in providing output to D1 it would be alot
more productive to work at that resolution ie: 720 x 486 especially if you
intend to do any paint box work, like painting or touching up your own
backgrounds, etc. I've been looking around to see what was available and
happened on the new Vista Digital which is CCR 601 compliant. I have since
learned through Martin K. that Matrox also has a board which works at this
resolution and has the advantage of composite out and about half the price. -JE
