We are trying to get Animator Pro setup. Having trouble getting the resolution to 640 by 480. We have loaded the supervga driver referenced in the readme file, but everytime we select the resolution it locks up the system. Our equipment is a Gateway 2000 486/33 EISA with 16 meg of RAM and a Diamond Speed Star video card which uses the tseng 4000 chip. What can you tell us that will help solve our problem? Thanks alot, because we are excited to get up and running quickly!!! Mary Jane

Are you using a memory manager like QEMM? If so, you might need to exclude the BIOS range of the card. The easiest way to determine if that is the problem is just to exclude A000-DFFF and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, then you can narrow the exclusion down to the BIOS area only. -Chris Panacea

Chris, I appreciate the reply, but I do not understand what you say. I am not a computer tech. Can you give me more basic clues as to what I would look for? I can look in my config.sys or autoexec.bat to help me answer the question, but what am I looking for that will tell me? Thanks for your taking time to help. Mary Jane

Mary, Look in your config.sys file for lines that look similar to this: DEVICE=C:\QEMM\QEMM386.SYS or DEVICE=C:\386MAX\386MAX.SYS These are two different 3rd party memory managers that might be causing the problem. -Chris Panacea

Chris, They say Device=C:\drv\himen.sys Device = c:\drv\emm386.exe ram 880 x=B000-B7FF frame=e000 I remmed out the second line and rebooted and then tried animator pro again, but it stilled locked up. Any suggestions? Mary Jane

Mary Jane: I'm sorry, but I'm jumping in to this thread late… If you're using DOS 6.0, create the config.sys file so that you can have two optional setups (see your DOS 6.0 manual) at boot up. One of the setups should not use Himem.sys or emm386.exe at all… that is the one that you want to use with AniPro. C#

Thanks for the tip. I have not gotten Dos 6.0 yet. Was hesitant because of the bug problems. But I do know that I need help with the dual setup for config.sys and auto exec.bat. Seems I need one that is just for dos multimedia programs and then another for windows multimedia programs. I have been exploring OS2 as they had said that might be helpful, but have not been able to get OS2 to work yet with all the peripherals SCSI 2 devices I have for multimedia. Still need drivers for the 5-1/4 removable optical drives. Any ideas where they write down BASIC config.sys and autoexec.bats for us non techies. I looked in DOS for DUMMIES, but they were not helpful. Thanks for the suggestion . ,,,,,Mary Jane

What 5-1/4 optical drives do you have? Have you look in the IBM OS/2 forum for some help? Ana

I have the Pinnacle PMO 650 magnetic optical drive. It works super, but causes lots of compatibility problems with other SCSI devices. I have spent many hours on phone with IBM, bottom line was that we need Pinnacle to write a driver for OS2. Mary Jane

This sounds strange to me. I have the Pinnacle PMO128 (i think big, but my budget not <g>) and it comes with drivers for DOS, UNIX and OS/2. Someone opints out that Pinnacle are a company that's mainly aimed to Unix, but it seems strange to me that they don't have OS/2 drivers for their Big Star. Anyway, a great drive 🙂 Ana ps. I miss a pinnacle forum, section or rep in the CD-ROM forum. I have hear that they have a BBS. Do you know something about it?

Mary, Vibrant Graphics makes an inexpensive graphics driver for Animator called ProRes/Animator. It would support all of the modes available on your ET 4000 chip. You can reach Vibrant at 800-937-1711. Best Regards, Brian Massey Vibrant Graphics

Brian, Thanks for the replay. I have two other things to try, suggestions from other helpful people such as yourself, so if that doesn't work, I will give Vibrant a call. Thanks for the reply Mary Jane
