Agreed – that's why I try to keep somewhat up to date on single board CPUs – my
friend's computer is definitely non-standard. FWIW – from a industrial
computer company – Single board CPU – 486/33: $1900, 486DX2/66: $2600. That's
with CPU but no memory. Max onbard memory is 32 meg. I think I remember a
single board CPU which had a memory daughterboard that allowed more memory, but
I haven't seen anything about it lately. LAM
We have a lot of old 8MHz Zenith 286s around at work. They have their CPU,
memory, and support circuitry on a couple of cards in their expanded ISA bus
slots. We've upgraded disks and displays over the years, and it sometimes makes
sense to upgrade the CPU card and keep the rest of the system.
