I'm new to COMPUSERV. How can I download a file from one of the forums? The
icons which would seem to relate to downloading/uploading are 'grayed'. What
gives?

You may have run into one of the strange quirks of CIS: if you are really new
to CIS, you will be able up/download files only after 10 days have passed from
your original logon. So that's the first issue. It would help to know what
interface package you are using, just to make sure there isn't something else
gone awry.
Also, one other point: address your queries of this sort (in any forum) to
"sysop" – without quotes, one word. I found this message only by accident.
