#MacWarehouse Deal
6 messages in this thread
The MacWarehouse deal is a CD-ROM double speed, multi session (Kodak Photo CD
compatable) for $299, plus for an extra $99 get as a bundle the Atlas pack
(U.S. and World) (kinda a yawner), the Animals CD (Kinda neet, enucational and
fun) and the Grolier's Mulit Media Encyclopedia.
Other spcs on the drive itself are: Data transfer rate=300KB, Access
time=400MS, Cache memory 64K. I have an Apple 300 CD-ROM at work, and,
comparing the two, I find them both to be good. The Apple 300 comes with 7 CDs,
which are nice to play with but nothing to write home to mom about. The
Macwarehouse drive comes with FWB's CD-ROM toolkit, plus the opportunity to get
several different bundles, depending on your needs/desires. Both seem to be
good drives (so far), and as far as speed running quick time movies, games,
running the Encyclopedia, etc., I really havn't noticed.

Thanks for your note. It would appear that the specs on the MacWarehouse
CD-ROM are a little slower than Apples? But the price is good and the bundle
is acceptable. I do have a preference (don't know why sometimes) for the Apple
logo on hardware, but I'll carefully monitor comments on the MacWarehouse unit.
Thanks for your response, would appreciate hearing more as you get more
experience with the MacWarehouse CD Rom.

Robert,
You might be surprised to hear (as I was) that the Apple 300 (Sony CDU-8003)
drive is now available retail for ~$399. I just got another one to replace my
antique 3301 after hearing that price. Once again, my local dealer beats my
June developers pricing… Scary. 🙂

Where did you get your Apple 300? Have you seen any mail order $399
prices? Thanks.
LOU
The price, $399, is a cash price at Macadam in San Francisco. It is their
current regular price and they had three or so left two days ago. Credit is
something like $419. They ship stuff around the world (literally since they
supply a distributor in Aus.)
You can give them a call at 415-863-6222.
