Robert, I'm interested in using a Future Domain TMC-845 controller under OS/2 2.0 and 2.1 to connect a Toshiba XM-3401 CD-ROM drive. My understanding is that the controller will require an interrupt; is that true? If I have another device using the same interrupt, as long as I don't use them both at the same time, will the controller work? Jean

Jean, The TMC-845 board should work fine with the OS2 2.x driver, FD8xx.ADD. This driver does require a hardware IRQ for the adapter. The board can use either IRQ 3 or 5. If there is another device in the system configured for the same IRQ, the system will not work correctly. It is not possible to share an IRQ. Most systems reserve IRQ 5 for a secondary printer (LPT-2). Although it is normally reserver by a jumper setting on the I/O card, DOS does not normally use the IRQ for a printer. I am not sure if OS2 requires an IRQ for a printer. Another thing you should be aware of is the non standard external port on the TMC-845. If the drive you plan to use in an external unit, you will need to get an external cable from Future Domain. The part number for this cable is HCA-108. Hope this information is usefull. Rob, Yes, the information is *very* useful. Do the 16xx series of Future Domain controllers also require an IRQ? The only reason I'm considering the TMC-845 is that I know someone with a spare so it won't cost me anything! Jean

Jean, Running bare DOS, none of the Future Domain SCSI adapters require a hardware IRQ setting. The Windows 3.1 Fastdisk, and the OS2 2.x drivers do require an IRQ. There is a wide variety to choose from on the 16-bit adapters. I believe you can choose from 3, 5, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15. Rob.
