#CD ROM caddy source?

Hi Ken:
Bought a couple of CD caddy's today at $8.00 each, and I happened to remember a
message about $4.00 caddies. Looked up my library of saved messages and saw
your message, but since there was no mention where you found this deal, I was
wondering if you still had a phone number or address. Seems like it was
somewhere (northern Calif?) but I must have tossed the number.

umping in… There's an outfit in Tucson Arizona that sells caddies for $4.75.
It's called Softec Plus. Phone #800- 779-1991. You can find their ad, a small
one, in computer shopper. I have purchased caddies from them (they're local to
me) and the quality is good, the people are nice. Highly recommended. Bob

Interesting, I just left a msg. about caddies in the CDVEN forum. Are all
caddies the same? I have a Dynatek unit with a Sony 541 in it. The dealer
that I got the drive from got a price of $18 a pop from Dynatek, he even
thought that it was high! He said that he'd try for a lower price, never heard
from him. I plum forgot about these CD-ROM forums<g>.

As far as I know caddies are pretty much the same. I can't tell the difference
(in terms of plastix quality and construction) between the $4.75 caddies I have
and the $12. I suspect caddie prices are still high because of the bad old days
when CD-ROM drives cost $1000 and the caddie makers thought they could get away

I called that number you listed and they said that a caddy is either made
here or in Japan, just look at the backside. I know mine say "Made in Japan"
so I ordered four. Thanks for the information.

A dealer friend of mine told me that the American-made caddies use a plastic
that's just a little more brittle, and that he's gotten complaints from people
who switch CD's a lot, but that people who just put a CD in the caddy and
leave it there "permanently" don't seem to have problems.
That's fascinating. I only have Japanese caddies, thankfully, because I do a
lot of switching. Hmmmm, does this mean we're ceding the ccaddy market to the
Japanese too?
