Does anyone know of an upgrade for the Sony Laser Library to provide multimedia PC capability (i.e. 150k at 40%)? I've heard of one using a Pro Audio Spectrum + card to replace both the CD-ROM interface and the sound card (ouch – expensive!) and another that simply enables the interrupt drive on the card with a new hardware driver SONY_PF.SYS from Trantor in the US (much better – only a couple of jumpers and a new driver – $35 in US). I'm looking for someone in the UK who can provide a reasonably priced upgrade. I've seen an add from Silica Systems in Kent for Aztech Sound Galaxy sound cards starting at L99+L7.99+VAT. The add says that the interface is "Sony AT-bus CD-ROM" compatible but I don't know whether that includes the LL. I'll check with them. In the meantime, I'd appreciate any info. Sam, download file Laser3.txt from Library #4. It has info on the two possible ways to upgrade the LL to MPC (Level #1 only, not the new Level #2 just released). Unless you're having a problem now, you might want to hold off and eventually get something that conforms to the newer spec, is quicker and has a standard SCSI bus in the process.
