Hi, When I try to start Multmedia Madness in the 3/5 issue of Nautilus, after pressing "Click me" the first time, I get the following Toolbook error: "Not a number:." I can continue with other things but nnever start anything from "Click me" Any clues? — Bjarne

I wrote that application, and it sounds like a bug. I'll look into it and see. It's possible that the driver being called at that point is not installed on your system, however, and all the bug fix would do in that case is eliminate (and handle) the failure to find the correct device. This could also be happening if any kind of audio is playing while you click the "click me" button. I'll check the code to see exactly what may be going on here and get back to you. I have a deadline to meet today (Wednesday), so I will probably work on it Thursday. Ron

The problem was fixed in the 3-6 edition. Look for it in Nautilus Services corrections/updates. I have to say that I have never ever EVER had buggier software than Nautilus. I have spent hours and HOURS trying to get things to run only to find out that it was a bugged program all along.

The problem was actually mine; don't blame Nautilus for *this* one. <g> I omitted a critical line of code that caused the wrong .DLL file to be hooked in on some systems. Nautilus was kind enough to put a correct version on the subsequent month's disc. Ron

Steve, You're right that Nautilus ships with lots of bugs, but usually a given bug affects only some of the subscribers. And Nautilus publishes corrected versions on subsequent discs. Given the enormous quantity of material that Nautilus distributes each month, don't you think it's fair to cut them a little slack? All in all, Nautilus saves me a lot of money. Before subscribing, I purchased several CDROMs that were disappointing, just to see what they were about. Now I usually get a preview of anything worth having . . . Lynne

I don't say Nautilus is bugfree but I have had it for a long time and this is the first time it has bothered me. The way I see it is looking for bugs is what you do when you bu a application that you expect to function well. This is a periodical publication with deadlines (I guess), something that ordinary program makers are notoriously bad at keeping. In other words compare it to a paper based publication. There you always find lots of "bugs". — Bjarne
