A couple of weeks ago you mentioned that you wanted to try the FoxPro .CDX
indexes with dBase. Since then several people have asked me about using dBase
to retrieve records from the CD-R's that I put the data on. I had to tell them
that I didn't know if it would work, but that I knew who to ask – you I hope.

If dBase could use the .CDX indexes to retrieve data from the CD it would be
simple to change the .FPT memo files to .DBT memo files (since I only have
ascii text in them). That would let my customers choose between FoxPro or
dBase to access my data.
I'm certainly no fan of anything from MicroSoft myself. I only went with
FoxPro because it happened to work with the CD.

Just curious. What type of data do you have in the FoxPro tables that are on
your CD-ROM? Is the CD a product that you sell or just what?

I use FoxPro to retrieve aviation safety databases (fielded data) from CD-R.
It works nearly as well from CD as from HD – in a flat file. Multiple table
searches are a little slow.
Originally we did this project just for our own use. But the CD-R process is
perfect for distributing low volume applications like this.
We're always looking for additional aviation safety databases if you ever come
across any.
