This message is to those with Video Toasters. I do special FX. for my school's video yearbook. Recently I ran into a problem in Light Wave. In modler I created a basketball board (rim, backboard, etc.) I than tried to make the backboard reflect the rim (its a transperent board). Unfortunatly it did not work. I tryed numerous things but to no avail. Can anyone help?

Is the Trace Reflections option on?

Eugene, Turning the trace reflections options on and carefully arranging your lights will work – but depending on how you intend to show the backboard, a partially faded out image map to simulate the reflection would be much faster. However, if the camera is moving or the reflected images are the focal point of the scene then your better off with the ray-tracing options. An extention of the fake reflection image map can be used even if you want to show a ball approaching and going in the basket. Tell LW to use a series of maps that match the balls approach. the time it takes to set something like this up is usually MUCH shorter than waiting for realistic results to be raytraced. One simple way to generate the sequence of images to use as the simulated reflection is to use LW to make them for you. For example if you wanted to show a basket ball flying toward the basket and going in for 2, set up your scene and save it, then reposition your camera behind the backboard so that it will see the ball as it approaches and then drops through the hoop. Save this as a separate scene and render. You can usually get away will a ham quality image for the mapping sequence. Save the images as iff files and then use them as an image mapping sequence in your REAL animation. Patrick
