Hello Paul
I wonder if you can help me with a GVP accellerator question? I believe
you mentioned working for GVP?
I have a GVP3001 accellerator and want to uprgrade the memory from 4mb
to 8mb (already got the 4mb simms on a steal). Problem is, I also have a
386SX Bridgeboard and it claims the last two mb of the normal 8mb of
fastram address space. I know (I tried) you can't put just 6mb on the
3001. Is there any way to remap the 2nd 4mb above 9mb space with the MMU?
Another question: how can I use 16 bit memory boards with the 3001's 32
bit memory installed? Is there any way to remap all the 32 bit higher and
still use the AdScsi2080 memory for the first 6mb? Is there a jumper on
the 3001 that will set it's base address higher than 9mb on bootup maybe?
Any help will be appreciated mucho

Hi Tom. First, yes, I work for GVP.
Although I am not that familiar with the A3001, I believe all memory on that
board is mapped into the Autoconfig space, i.e., the 8MB space you mentioned,
and therefore not the MMU, or anything else, can map it elsewhere. Sorry.
Only our newer Combo boards have the concept of extended memory, which is
mapped in way above the autoconfig space and therefore does not conflict with
boards like the Bridgeboard.
I know you have an investment in your A3001 and memory, but if you really want
an accelerator, 8MB (or more) of RAM, and the Bridgeboard, I suggest you call
GVP and inquire about a trade-up, because we have very attractive offers.

Thanks for the advice Paul, I sort of suspected it. On the newer boards
that map the memory above the autoconfig space, is it then possible to
have 16 bit memory cards mapped into the autoconfig as well?
Sounds like I might just have to sell this one and go shopping like you
say.

If you have 32 bit memory above the autoconfig space, yes, you can have the
full 8MB of "fast" (i.e., non-CHIP) 16 bit memory.
Our Combo boards have a jumper that designates the first 8MB to be autoconfig
or not. Anything beyond 8MB is always what we call extended (i.e., way above
the autoconfig space). Since no software and only DMA hardware cards really
gain from having some of the Combo board's memory in the autoconfig space, it
usually makes sense to leave all 32 bit RAM on the Combo board as extended.
DMA cards I mention include Commodore's 2091 disk controller, our HC8, etc.
However, having those in the machine is pointless because the Combo has a much
faster SCSI controller on it that can DMA into its own 32 bit memory wherever
it is.

I noticed in the fidonet GVP echo some mention of GVP coming to the
AmigaVendor forum here on CIS, since that echo is dropped from the
backbone now. That is good news (for everyone here at least.)
