#IFF-24 Question

With the TOASTER I can generate IFF-24 graphics, pictures etc. Would like to be able to re-touch and maybe alter some of those framestores. What do I need to do such a job? Have DeLuxe Paint, Pixmate, PhotonPaint and a few more, but don't think they can handle the IFF-24 format. Regards, HILARY.

ImageFX, from GVP, provides the best set of image retouching tools you're likely to find in a 24-bit package. With the forthcoming ToasterFX, from Byrd's Eye Software, ImageFX will be able to load and save framestores directly as well as preview and paint directly on the toaster's output screens! Thanks for the info' Kermit. Question: Is the GVP "ImageFX" just software or is it a boad – plus the software. Second…. what is the status of the ToasterFX? Am presently in thre process of learning to use the new Innovision "Montage" software, which handles both titles and/or backgrounds in IFF24. Most of my "images" come by way of a studio camera into the Toaster in the Y/C mode, I usually freeze frame them either in the Toaster or one of the TBC's. I then store them for future use. It is such framestores that I would like to touch-up and fiddle with. I can look up price of the ImageFX, but have you any idea as to how much the ToasterFX will be when it emerges? Again thanks & best regards, HILARY.

Hilary, ImageFX is software only. It's isn't "part" of any particular display card or anything of that nature. While we're not the ones publishing ToasterFX, it actually comes from Byrd's Eye Software of Texas, I suspect we'll see something very very soon. 🙂 Kermit Woodall Nova Design, Inc.

Thanks so much for the info' Kermit. My interest has been piqued because I have just got the first version of the "Montage" program by Innovision. This intergrated a 24 bit titling program into the Toaster. Still has a few bugs in it – so am somewhat like a latter day Beta Tester. As everything is rendered in the 24 bit mode, I would like to be able to manipulate the "product" with a suitable program. Incidently, the titling images produced by "Montage" are the best I have ever seen from a computer generated setup. They are quite equal to the dedicated character generators (like the Chyron). Best regards, HILARY.

Last time I was at my Amiga dealer I was very impressed by the additions made to ImageFX package. Some unique as far as I know to the Amiga. Like being able to display parts of Super-bitmap 24 bit images with a DCTV realtime. And features for batch processing anim files. Etc. etc. As a current owner/user of both Imagemaster and ADPro I'm still kinda interested in your s/w. Haven't d/l the demo yet, I hate the tease :^) Please bring us all up to date on the current features of ImageFX. ….John

John, a full list of the new features of ImageFX will be posted when the new ImageFX 1.5 is shipping. As the announcement lists, there will be integrated macro recording to automatically generate Arexx scripts, a few dozen more loader/saver/render/preview/scanner modules, the virtual memory (and the whole program actually) have been sped up significantly, the drawing tools have been expanded to add loads of new cool tools and much much more. Hope this additional teaser will suffice until I have the entire list ready! <grin> Kermit Woodall Nova Design, Inc.

Hilary, On the other hand, Imagemaster R/t is nearing the door, and will have built-in Toaster Framestore compatibility (not an aftermarket product); more powerful tools than ImageFX (and many more of them); more powerful paint, etc. Think about it… :^) –Ben …via AutoPilot

>Imagemaster R/t is nearing the door, and will have built-in Toaster >Framestore compatibility THANK YOU!!! I have been working on a project in Imagine and going to dump it to tape with the Toaster so being able to proccess the images and save them as Framestores has been a great help. I had to use AD-PRO to do that. Nice to know that IM will have the same feature soon. <<< Tony D. Tracer >>>

You're welcome. :^) This time, we did it without any "help" from NewTek and company – so it's all ours. –Ben …via AutoPilot

Erik, need some assistance here. Using an UnZip program for the Amiga, if a file was PC mode PkZipped and converted to a self extracting type "EXE", can the UnZipper go into it and pull the original file out? I've found out that the UnZipIt program for the MACs can, but I'm not sure about the Amiga type. Thanks for the information and assist. Vince

Yeesh, you've got me there. I usually don't muck with compressed stuff from other platforms….I do remember seeing a program for the Amiga that claimed cross-platform PKZip compatibility, but I never tried it. I think it was somewhere in the AmigaUser libraries…. Sorry I can't offer more help. :^( Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom

Erik, I'll nose around the libs on the ZIP keyword and should be able to find it so I can review the docs. Thanks for the pointer. Vince

"This time, we did it without any "help" from NewTek…" I remember talking to someone at NewTek a while back about the Framestore format. They said that no one would be able to read a Framestore image 'cause the format changes with every upgrade. They said this was done intentionally so as to integrate new technology as it became available. Are you "aware" of this? BTW, Thank You. -Louis On AUTOPILOT

Yeah, we've heard that particular line. However, for the moment, we seem to have all the bases covered. We don't look to NewTek for reasonable behaviour, anyway. Haven't for some time now. –Ben …via AutoPilot

Still a couple weeks, or are we one-weeken it now ? I can't wait for IM R/t, Really. Just hope it works, for me. ….John

You may have a point in waiting for the new program – especially if it intergrates with the Toaster Framestore files. The new "Montage" I am presently using for character generation, uses the Framestore of the Toaster, so one can bring up images for use as title gackgounds. Thanks for the info' and advice. All the best, HILARY

>ImageFX will be able to load and save framestores directly as well as >preview and paint directly on the toaster's output screens! Do you mean real-time 24 bit painting? What ToasterPaint SHOULD do? You said the output screens, so I assume you mean composite. I have nothing against composite, I have DCTV, but I just want to ask as many questions as possible before I buy something. >Do you mean real-time 24 bit painting? What ToasterPaint SHOULD do? Yep! You'll have painting abilities far beyond anything else, plus you will be able to see the output directly on the Toaster's composite output. Check w/Byrd's Eye Software for more direct information. Hilary, You can do SOMe Phototouchup with Imagemaster, DCTV Paint is also quite nice. If you have a Spare Amiga you might want to try Opalvision as Opalpaint is quite nice. or you COULD wait till Brilliance is released.
#33038From: Black Belt SystemsJul 8, 1993 4:08 PM
Peter, I think Brilliance is out, from some comments I've seen. Finally. –Ben …via AutoPilot
#33088From: john bennettJul 9, 1993 2:45 PM
As far as 'hype' Brilliance is the next best thing to Toaster initial release. Whats it supposed to do that IM won't ? ….John
#33098From: Peter GreciJul 9, 1993 3:29 PM
Brilliance is out eh? I think before I buy it I'll wait to see IM R/T Off to get Tattooed

I was going to get a Pegasus that was standing on it's hind legs and Breathing Fire on my Left Calf but since my Uncles Tat took till 7 am this morning and we still had a 3 hour drive back to Brooklyn from the Catskills I decided to wait and go to my Regular Tattoo guy, Huggy Bear instead of having my Cousin Freddy at Flying Eagles Tattoo's do it.
