#ArexxHELP!
5 messages in this thread
Hi!
I need a little help writing an ARexx script.
I have a Meade LX-200 computerized Schmidt-Cassegrain 10 inch telescope
that is capable of being controlled via telescope. I want to be able to
control it using Distant Suns ver. 4.0, and I need to convert the LX-200
commnad set into an ARexx scipt, but I am unsure of how the ARexx syntax
works. ANY help will be appreciated.
EMail me at 71460,2251.
Thanks,
Earl Green

Earl,
In what part of the country are you located?
Earl, Arexx is tough without a manual ( and even then ). I have been
wrestling with ARexx and the serial port for months now with limited
success. The manuals tell you about syntax and the various elements but
don't say much about the overall organization (how to put a program
together)
I finally got the SerialManager that comes with CanDo to handle the serial
communication between my 3000 and an laser disc recorder. The disc only
accepts hexidecimal commands. The serialmanager has an option to send HEX
commands. It was then necessary to set up buttons or scripts that would
send the appropriate commands through the serial port when you were ready.
I have not yet found an easy way to send data out the serial port. Using a
serial port manager like the serialmanager seems unecessarily complicated
given the Amiga's usual level of user friendliness.

Patrick,
Open the SER: device in ARexx and just use Writech() to send data
through the serial port. Problem with using ARexx rather than a host like
serial- manager is that you have no extensive control over the use of the
port unless you're willing to do some additional ARexx programming.
However, some time ago there were several programs in the LIBs which
involved using the serial port with ARexx without a host manager. There
was also an old Basic program which used the serial port. It was a phone
dialer. The routines in it for accessing the serial port through Basic
were (are) essentially what you need to do with ARexx. You might see if
that old stuff is still around to use as helpful examples. Alternatively,
if you have any old Basic programming books which have examples of using a
serial port from Basic, I think you could adapt them to ARexx. There also
was an upload awhile back of a serial library of routines accessible from
ARexx for using the serial port.
Steven,
Thanks for the AREXX & serial info.
