Does anybody have Imagine on their IBM yet. I do but haven't spent much time
with it

I've briefly installed it on a computer at the office, to have a taste of
what Imagine's like on the PC. Like most PC programs, it's shaky when you first
install it, with problems related to memory enhancers and graphics cards, but
once I got the options right it worked like a champ. I'm sorry to say, it
rendered a simple scene four times faster on a 486/33 than my Amiga 3000.
(030/25) For the price, there is nothing else on the PC that can touch Imagine.
And do yourself a favor: if you buy Imagine, IMMEDIATELY phone Steve Worley
at 7532 and order his $30 book, Understanding Imagine 2.0. Then throw away the
Imagine manual. You'll thank yourself for it.

P.S. In composing this reply, I discovered what happened to the original phone
number. I was typing it on my 3000's numeric keypad, and for some reason, Whap!
interprets the keypad "-" key as "delete line". B^S

Thanks for the info. If the gods of package delivery allow we should be
receiving our copy of Imagine PC today (weve been having a little trouble with
UPS recently). I expect to spend the next week or so attempting to install it
properly. If you've actually done this successfully you may hear some more
from me.

Well, we got our PC version of Imagine, and, as I had expected, it won't work
with my 24 bit video card (AGI Ultra-Pro 2 meg with VESA drivers). It renders
in 24 bit, but it won't display in 24 bit in Imagine. I seem stuck with 256
colors. Does anyone know how to get it to display in 24 bit?
John, I don't have the ATI (?) Ultra Pro, but are you sure you're invoking the
VESA driver upon startup? I thought I was with my Cirrus Logic, but it turns
out I wasn't. I dug up a program somewhere on CIS called Univesa. I run it
upon startup (with a clean boot disk for Imagine) and the program displays
24-bit like a champ. Let me know what you uncover. –Rick Rodriguez
I called your tech support and they said that the most imagine would do on a pc
was 256 colors. To view in 24 bit you have to go into a paint program or
viewer. This is something of a pain because it means going into windows
loading fractal design painter and then exiting windows to get back into
imagine. Since the ATI manual seemed to list a billion different VESA SVGA
modes how does imagine decide which one to use? Most PC programs have a
configuration menu or command line switch somewhere to specify video modes.
The only thing I could find was a switch for the firecracker 24 board and I
know that ain't gonna work on my PC. Thanks for any info

PS Is there any way I can get the specs on the object file formats so I can
write object generation programs and/or the specs on how to write F/X and
texture programs?

I've been using the PC version for about 8 weeks initially
on a Dell 486P/33 and now on a Dell 486ME at 66 Mhz. It was
a pain getting the machine configured but Multiconfig in DOS 6
reduced the effort. I've completed two projects on time and
budget and I'm won over from the Amiga for the hard work bit.
There is a continuing problem with the mouse interupt that drops
out back to the DOS prompt if the mouse is moved rapidly while
a requester is moving on the screen. You learn to save things at
every step very rapidly!!
There really is nothing to compare with it on a PC.
Paul, Impulse tells me that they have uncovered lots of problems with Logitech
mice (of which I have two). They recommend Microsoft's new mouse and drivers
and say the problems disappear. –Rick Rodriguez
