D 24-BIT ANIMATION

Well, I'm not sure, but, Truevision themselves may have some modern-day
alternatives. Whether or not they're 24 bit is another question. I've seen a
lot of lower-end stuff from them since they were sold to, I believe it was
SuperMac. If the Targa and AT Vista cards were brought into the VGA age, they
wouldn't be so bad.
As for 24-bit video interface, well, theres a lot out there, I'm not
sure what's better or worse, or more or less, than using an AT Vista setup. I
see a lot of stuff advertised in Computer Graphics World, High Color, and
Computer Pictures (although Computer Pictures leans more to the Mac side of
things). Some of the stuff are boards, others external packages. I'm doing a
lot of research right now on all this stuff. I'd like to have a 2-D, and 3-D
set-up with 24-bit transfer capability to both video and higher-res film. The
video stuff is relatively cheap nowadays, the film transfer is another story.
Well, I'll catch you around!

Have you looked into PixoFoto. It's a powerful DOS paint package. Call Clive
Liu at 415.323.6592.

Last time I looked into that, it was bugged-out, and kept crashing.
Otherwise, it seemed like an interesting alternative.

Wrong! BUZZ! Next player! You, sir, over there! "RasterOps." Bingo! <g>
Greg (but thank you for playing) Pyros
PS – the above quote from Robin Williams in "Dead Poet's Society"!

Great movie! I'm writing this sitting in a chair on the top of the table <g>
Seriously, some of the Great Thoughts Are there.

Certainly, the Truevision 1024-32 is not a cheap board, but if you want a Texas
Instruments 34020 based board with 4MB vram (and a 16MB xtra module) of RAM and
1024x768x32 bit not interlaced high frequency, that it's your board. i use it
for Windows, with Painter, PhotoStyler and PhotoShop. The drivers are really
good. It also carry an on-board ET4000 VGA chipset, so you will get stellar TI
and DOS perfomance. For print work, it's a great board (specially plenty of
memory).

I'm not sure if you have been in a cave this last year <g> but (if I understand
you well) Truevision has not been adquired by SuperMac. They are with RasterOps
now, and form one of the biggest graphics company in both Mac and PC platforms.
The lower end stuff you are talking about are probably the Bravados and
VideoVGAs, the "lastest" Truevision boards. Well, the Bravado is only 16 bit
VGA video, and true video in a window, and probably is the best card in its
class. A decoder will appear soon. I had one 16bit (8bit available too) for a
couple of months. it's an awesome board. The VideoVGA is aimed to the
nonbroadcast video market.

I don't know what are you trying to say with this, but I think that the targas
and Vistas are good as they are now. For video work, VGA simply don't fit. the
targas and the Vista are just that: Targa and Vista compatible <g>
As for the video/print setup, I work in both fields. I'm currently using a
Targa+ and a 1024-32 in the same system, in order to have both worlds. Kevin
Krell also use this setup (correct me if not, Kevin)

Yeah well, Rasterops, Supermac, what the hell. 🙂 As for the Targa/AT
Vista, I don't like interlaced output, which is what I really meant by
"bringing them into the modern age". I know that they're not interlaced for the
video work, but, video work is not everything! Neither is 1024×768 resolution.
I've taken keen interest in the 24-bit 1600×1200 Matrox card, and it would be
nice to have an AT Vista-type card with that kind of res. I should add here
that this Matrox card may be interlaced at that res, but I highly doubt it. I
think you get the idea. The modern age. 🙂
Phil:

PMJI, the interlaced output is only when going out to video, the board will
also output non-interlaced if you want it to! No extra charge! <g>
The Vista has somewhere around 20 different output modes, all software
selectable.
Greg Pyros
Greg,
Phil may mean that he would like the higher resolution (1024×768) to be
non-interlaced, and the ATVista is only interlaced at that res. BTW, looks as
if all his arguments about Hi-res QFX are being nullified (batch mode,
full-screen, Windows, etc.).
Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
Not really. We recently incresed the memory in the machine to 64 megs,
loaded a small (30meg) file into QFX 3, and it was still a slug.
Yes, Greg. But it seems that Phil wants superhires at high frequencies and
non-interlaced (at 24 bits). However, there's a simply explanation to this
interlaced vs. noninterlaced dilema: both modes have its application. Hey! I
spend MANY dollars in both class of boards, if there's something that can do it
all (and do it VERY GOOD) I will take it (if I can afford it) <G>
