#VistaPro/fields
14 messages in this thread
John – I've conceived of a way to get (read "simulate") fields with VistaPro. I
will pass this on to John Hinkley as well, for (hopefully) inclusion in a later
version. One hopes that a little program could be written to do the first part
of this, and that the rest could be done in batch mode, somehow.
Step 1) Generate a VP script using VP or MakePath
Step 2) Edit the script, doubling the number of frames and creating the values
for the new frames by finding the median number between the preceding and
succeding frames.
Step 3) Generate the images
Step 4) Edit the images by removing every other horizontal line and alternating
even and odd lines in every other frame. (Lines 1,3,5,7, etc. in frame 1, lines
2,4,6,8, etc. in frame 2, frame 3 like 1, frame 4 like 2, etc.
Step 4) Paste frame 2 onto frame 1, frame 4 onto frame 3, etc.<<Animator could
do this with a macro but, obviously, not in 24-bit color.>>
Step 5) Render to tape (doing Video Post with your 3D Studio portions of the
animation.
Step 5.5) Go get a beverage, sit on the rocker on the porch, relax, think of
other ways to squander precious time, etc.
I have not yet done this, but I *think* it would work. Vas denkst du?

David:
Should work fine. An IPAS routine could do this whole process very easily.
Greg Pyros
Is that a hint? Whatch your Sun hard disk tonight…
Gus:
>> Is that a hint? Watch your Sun hard disk tonight…
I'm not going to watch the disk for your downloads! By the time you finish
playing, it's usually 4:00am!
I'll check it in the morning!
Greg
It will be there. If you build, they will come… This ain't field of dreams
but it's almost there.
Gus – Are you referring to an IPAS to create fields from VistaPro images (or
any other frames-generating software)? I would actually buy that, even tho' I
can't afford the $. (So, what else is new?)
DT
Any numbered sequence of images.
Jeez Louise (grabbing hair w/both hands) yer fast!
Regrettably, I'm not a programmer and can't afford the software to create IPAS
routines, either. I suspect that 3DS users who want to incorporate VP
animations might be too small of a market to make it practical for the Pyros
Part. to write one, also. No? I *could* (with a couple of weeks of screwing
around and messing up) possibly write the program to parse and regenerate the
VP script file. As to which image processing packages could support a macro
function as I described, I don't know. Certainly using Windows' macro recorder
would be an exercise in futility. Any suggestions? (Gonna have Gus write this?)
DT
>>An IPAS routine could do this whole process very easily.<< Presumably you
don't mean generate the in-between image files from/for VP? This would have to
be just integrating the images, right?
David:
Gus finished his first cut at the programs, it works pretty well as is!
What you need to do is to render twice as many frames in Vista Pro (or any
other software that does frame rendering) as you want to end up with, and
the program turns it into a field rendered animation!
Pretty slick! Now who wants it, and what are you willing to pay for it?
Private e-mail only, please! What is the market for such a utility?
Greg Pyros
I want it! Private E-Mail coming… I will also bring up my 600 VistaPro files
which I indended to be 20 seconds of animation. I guess now it will be 10 huh?
Still pretty neat. We can compare the difference…
Doug:
>> I will also bring up my 600 VistaPro files
OK, that will be our final test!
And you can pick up your computer which you guys left here after our last
project together! Must be nice to have so many around that you don't miss
one or two if they get left behind! <g>
You _will_ be at our Sunday night get-together, won't you?
Greg Pyros
Yes, Greg. Pretty slick! {Gawd, now I have to come up with a $ value?)
DT
If you get this thing going, would you send me email? I'd like to cover in it
my book — I have a chapter on Vista Pro, and it would be useful information
for folks. I recently did my biggest fly-through ever — 100 megs, 2.5 days to
generate on a 486/66. <g>
