So Jack, What did you decide to do SWREG or not? And if so when and how
will recieve my registration and future updates?

Once I get the bugfix version done, hopefully later tonight, I'll go in
to SWREG and get it set up.
I plan to have the registered version ship in around two weeks once the
phonebook conversion utility is done and I'm sure that it's 100% solid.
Updates will be handled via patch programs that will be distributed here
and on other systems.

Is it possible that you might consider supporting AGA machines a bit
better? What I mean is, I would like to be able to use Productivity Mode
and so far, unless I want to run Terminus from the Workbench, this
possiblity doesn't seem to exist.

I never intended to not support them, I just screwed up and broke that
part of the program.
I'm getting ready to release a bugfix update that adds a screen mode
requester and works fine with the other screen modes.

Contrary to what _some_ people are saying, forget about making Terminus
1.3 compatible. Anybody using there Amiga for anything more than games
has or should have upgraded with the *cheap* ROM upgrade years ago.

Like what? 2.x users are not disadvantaged by having 1.3 support in
there as it is.
Compare feature sets with Terminus, Term and XComm. Then compare
executable sizes.

I received enough feedback to verify that keeping 1.3 support in there
was not a mistake.

That's too bad… Of the people that requested 1.3 support, I am sure
most of them are either/or game players or not serious about productivity
software on the Amiga as many of the new utilities and commercial programs
require 2.0 as a minimum.

Believe what you want, but 2.x doesn't provide anything magical that
benefits telecommunications.
If you're want is to use a 2.x-only program that is just about double
the size of Terminus while providing less features internally, that's your
prerogative though.

Believe, I like Terminus…. I just think that by avoiding using standard
2.0+ gadget calls etc… you eliminate the standardization that Amiga
users have been fighting for.

GadTools has nothing to do with standardization, all it does is make it
easier to build standardized looking applications since it's already done
the work of building the gadgets and menus for you.
Nowhere in the style guide does Commodore demand that you are to use
GadTools in order to acheive this, it's just mentioned as a suggestion to
take advantage of it so that you don't have to do the work yourself.
Things like CycleToMenu are hacks because they peek into data structures
that were never intended to be peeked into. If Commodore makes some
changes to GadTools in the future that breaks CycleToMenu are you going to
blame them as well?

Gadtools are incredibly useful … and they are also incredibly limiting.

It has one of the best VT100 emulations around. 🙂
