Terminus 2.0a
24 messages in this thread
I just released Terminus 2.0a this afternoon. I tried to upload it here
but the library said that it was full. I'll try again Sunday evening once
I return from a weekend trip.
There are two archives posted on the support BBS if you would rather not
wait for them to be posted here. TRMS20A.LZH is the full distribution
archive and TEXE20A.LZH is the bugfix executable only. Both archives
contain a History.txt file that should be read as 2.x users will need to
make modifications to their console definition files prior to running this
version of Terminus.
-jack-
Jack, I DLed TEXE20A.LZH from Portal tonight. It seems that ZModem and XPR
downloading is broke. They both worked fine with the original 2.0 release.
When I try to initiate an XPR (B Plus) download, CIS sends the init string, but
Terminus 2.0a doesn't want to autostart the download – no requester pops up.
On a Zmodem download, a requester does pop up but it then times out.
Tim
Tim,
I didn't dink with the transfer protocols. Are you using Extended
pathnames by any chance?
-jack-
Jack, No I'm not using Extended Pathnames. I'm not doing anything different –
the same settings I used with version 2.0.
I've got another question – has the Support BBS been down lately? No matter
what time I call, I get a constant busy signal.
Tim
Tim,
The support BBS is rarely free these days, that should die down in a
week or so though.
Not sure why you're running into troubles with downloads though, can you
give me any more details on what's happening?
All the reports of download problems so far have been traced back to
extended pathnames, nothing similar to your problem concerning 2.0a from
anyone else yet either.

Another user here on CIS, Nick Murray 70003,1112, has experinced the same
problems I'm having.

I'm using the same setup I did for 2.0. My equipment is an A3000T-040 running
Kickstart 39.110 and Workbench 39.29. I'm using a USR 16.8K Dual Standard
modem with the following setup string: AT&FTX6&A3&B1&H1&K3&R2S32=9&W^M. I
followed your instructions in the 2.0a readme file and removed the DISPID and
DISPLAY commands from all console definition files.
Let me know if you need more info.
Tim
Tim,
What pathname definition are you using for downloads?
-jack-
Ok Jack,
I got a raw capture and my .con file ready to send to you. How do I do it?
LHARC em up and send em through email?
Nick
Nick,
Yeah, that would be fine.
-jack-
Jack, here is some more info on the problems I'm having with 2.0a of Terminus.
As I said earlier, I cannot get Zmodem and CIS B+ transfers to work.
I called a BBS running WWIV v4.21. If I selected Zmodem as my transfer
protocal, it didn't work. If I selected Super Zmodem, it did work. I hope
this can shed some light on the problem.
Tim
Tim,
Hmm, I've never called a WWIV board, I'll have to see if there's one
local to me that I can try.
Have you tried any other systems?
Also, what happens with the CIS B+ transfer? Does anything get posted
at all?
How about the log file, does it tell you anything?
-jack-
For the record, my CIS B+ and ZMODEM xfers are working fine. However there
seems to be a little typo when when you download with CIS B+. Download a file,
and watch the "Time Remaining" line. There is a "R" after the ":" so it looks
like this Time Remaining:R00:00:00
Nick
Nick, yes CIS B+ and ZMODEM works fine for me in version 2.0 (this includes the
"R" in the time remaining field). But with version 2.0a it's a no-go.
Tim
"Nick, yes CIS B+ and ZMODEM works fine for me in version 2.0 (this includes
the "R" in the time remaining field). But with version 2.0a it's a no-go. "
I stand corrected. You are right. I just called a friends UNIX node and tried
to download a file using ZMODEM. After I send the command "sz" to his system
the transfer window appeared but it just sat there and started to time out. I
then called back using Terminus 2.0 and it worked fine.
Nick
Nick,
What pathname definition are you using for downloads?
-jack-
" What pathname definition are you using for downloads? "
WORK:DOWNLOADS/
After I found out that 2.0a didn't work as far as transfers go, I replaced the
executable with 2.0 of Terminus and it did work. Would my pathnames change if
I just switched executables?
Nick
Nick,
Remove the trialing '/' and see what happens. I'll have to add
something to look for that…
-jack-
I am using Work:downloads for my download path. I just tried CIS B+ and it
DOES WORK for me using 2.0a. However, when I went to my friends UNIX machine
and did a ZMODEM download, the transfer window came up but it just stayed there
and did nothing till I hit ABORT. I then selected XPR as my protocol and chose
XprZMODEM.library and the transfer worked (I did get errors during the xfer but
not sure where those are coming from since I NEVER get errors when I xfer from
that machine). Now ZMODEM DOES work for me when I call a IBM board that runs
WILDCAT software, and it worked on AMiga board running Ami-Express. So it looks
like my friends UNIX machine is the only one thus far.
and I AM NOT using extended pathnames.
Nick
Nick,
Are you using auto-dl challenge on that UNIX machine? Some barf on
that.
-jack-
>Also, what happens with the CIS B+ transfer? Does anything get posted at all?
I tried downloading the file STAT21.LHA from Lib:9. I selected CompuServe B+
and original B as my download protocol and CIS sent out the following string:
B3TDBSTAT21.LHA7x
>How about the log file, does it tell you anything?
When a B+ or Zmodem download times out, nothing is written to the log file.
>Have you tried any other systems?
Yes. I've tried several. I was unable to perform a Zmodem download on the
following systems: BIX, RBBS-PC, WWIV 4.22, GEnie, PCBoard 14.5/D (your BBS),
MAXIMUS 2.01wb, and WWIV v4.20e. I *was* able to perform Zmodem downloads on
the following systems: Z/Max XChange 3.3Beta, TriBBS 4.02, WiIdCat! 3.5, and
Portal.
I hope this helps.
Tim
Tim is right about ZMODEM not working in 2.0a. I just called a friends UNIX
node and tried to download a file using ZMODEM. After I send the command "sz"
to his system the transfer window appeared but it just sat there and started to
time out. I then called back using Terminus 2.0 and it worked fine.
By the way, is there a problem with the keyboard method of sending a password?
I can get Terminus 2.0 and 2.0a to send a password with the pulldown menu but
neither will send it with the LEFT AMIGA z why did it change from RIGHT AMIGA z
like in JRCOMM?
Nick
Try pressing RIGHT AMIGA SHIFT Z.
//
\X/ Ernest Otte
Nick,
The menus still use <RAMIGA>, not <LAMIGA>. They're now case sensitive
though, so you have to use <SHIFT>Z, not Z by itself to send the
password.
-jack-
Ok, got it!
