Does anyone know how to get a wire frame image file directly from the 3D Studio 3D Editor? Is there a screen capture utility, that will "take a picture" and save a viewport display from the 3D editor? Thank you for help.-Rachel

I don't know of any screen capture utility that will take a snapshot of just the viewport, but you could switch the one viewport you want to capture to full screen mode, and use Pixelpop (which comes with animator pro) or some other capture utility you may have on hand. I believe Hijaack makes a dos screen capture program. PixelPop always worked well for me.

Rachel There is a program available somewhere on CIS called VGACAP which works quite well for 3DS screen captures. I've had it quite a while so can't remember which forum it's in so you'll have to do a search. TedB

Just remember, that the majority of screen capture utils won't work at resolutions greater than 640×480. I looked for one a while back, and no dice. Dave

PMJI, Word Perfect comes with a screen capture utility that will do 1024. Not sure of the name of it but it's there. We found it because we were trying to capture ACAD screens but HIJAAK does not like Soft Engine for some reason. ANyway, just FYI. Dave Mennenoh

Rachel, howdy doody! I have done exactly what you describe – I used vgacap which is available in go graphics, probably. Just make sure you have your main-display in 3ds set to vga, not rcpadi or rcpvesa. Otherwise it won't work.

Rachel, I should be able to go to the Sun night and Tuesday night do's. I may not be able to stay long since I my sister's family is in visiting from England – and that's a fairly rare occurence.

Rachel, Everyone is talking about screen capture options… is there a reason you can't just render in a wire frame mode? This would give you a wireframe image of whatever viewport you decided to render. -Brian

yes i do this for color prints and some lino output that is high res, but don't like the quality, resolution 1.time 2.file size 3. am printing with text, in press format. i know i have seen 3Ds screen shots and different journalists and publishers mentioned a utility, that i couldn't rememebr, also I wanted to show the image as a viewport, not image, oh goodness i'm tired but if it matters that's the why thanks.

I've used various screen capture utilities with 3DS, but all of them would only work when I used vanilla generic VGA drivers for the various screens. Seems there's not much out there that will work in the SuperVGA modes. Ron
