#wanted DTP & Graphics
8 messages in this thread
I am seeking advice on purchasing a simple, yet reliable desktop publishing
program. I will be primarly using it to publish a
bi-monthly newsletter. I am also looking for a printing program, kindda like
Print Shop. I have a program caleed Pelican Press
and it is O.K. but it doesn't have enough graphics or fonts. I have an Amiga
500 w/1meg. The printers I am using are the Hewlett Packard 500c deskjet and a
Epson 5000 + Actionprinter. Would appreaciate any and all recommendations.
I would suggest Final Copy II. It is a word processing program that could
be used for a whole lot more. Or if you really want to go for it
Pagestream 2.0 would be a bit pricey but has all the toys. plenty of
clipart in the libs also. Another one would be PageSetter: it is less
expensive.

Always on autopilot
You can get PageStream 2.2 for less than Final Copy II nowadays.

If you would like any information on our desktop publishing program
(PageStream), we can send it to you. Email us or call 1-800-829-8608.
PageStream retails for $299.95, but we're clearing out copies of 2.2 to make
way for 3.0, and some places are selling it very, very cheap. I can't recommend
specific places since I should be impartial, but I'm sure others can do so for
you. PageStream 2.2 is a very competent desktop publishing program.

Mike,
Hi. When will PgS 3.0 be available? Can I order an upgrade yet?
Rich
PageStream 3 availability: early fall.
Upgrades: you can place an order now if you wish by calling sales at
1-800-829-8068. If you order by check it won't be cashed until we ship, and if
you order by credit card you won't be billed until we ship. Or you can wait for
the next DTP World which will have an order form for PageStream3. That will be
mailed in mid-August.

Michael,
What will we see in 3.0?
Malcolm
> What will we see in 3.0?
Everything.
😉
Seriously, it has just about every single feature people have ever asked for.
We have a general feature list we can mail you, but it just says things like
Auto/Manual Kerning: PageStream3:yes, XPress3.1:yes, ProPage4:partial.
It doesn't go into detail saying that the Auto Kerning requester, for example,
allows you to choose between No Kerning, Text Kerning and Design Kerning, and
that you can toggle Auto Ligature to On, Off, or "On (no ffi ffl)". Or that you
can set it to only kern above a certain size, and that you can set the min and
max kern, and that you can toggle on Hanging Punctuation and Optical Alignment.
This is just one requester, but you get the idea. The feature comparison lists
all the major features, but there is so much behind each of them that it would
be impossible to explain the whole program in one message. We added everything
we had ever wanted in a desktop publisher. (Well, almost. I already have a
wishlist for the next time! 😉 I can't ask the boss for them now, or that
would delay 3.0!)
