Network Lens Flare

Hi everyone, I'm having problems with network rendering using IPAS Lens Flare. When I render my scene locally (not in slave mode) it works perfectly. When I set the job up for all the other machines to render they produce the frames but my sun object has no flare assigned to it. There are no errors in the log file – all the slaves have access to the flare.ixp on my network drive. As a test I substituted hilight for flare – and all the slaves rendered it fine, under exactly the same conditions as flare. I seem to remember there being an update for lens flare, was this just to cope with R3's 64 bit rendering calculations or did it also address network rendering?? Hopefully…. Andy Roberts BITS Corporation P.S. Is there a contact number in the UK for ordering flock, drape, vortex etc??

Andy: The R3 version on lens flare was to make it compatible with the 64 bit renderer. If you use the old r2 version you will get an 8 bit dithered render. It will be most noticeable on color gradients that will band. As far as your network is concerned, I suggest doing what everybody else does successfully. Place a copy of your IPAS modules and maps in each slaves drive in the appropriate directory. Not only will you eliminate the problems you just mentioned but also will speed up your network rendering process.

Andy, the update for Flare.ixp is partly to address 64-bit color issues in R3 and partly to address network rendering. You need it! The new IPAS catalog explains how to get the update (back page). – G

I believe IPAS routines must be in unique directories on EACH net machine, whether your log file says it's fine or not. John Tissavary (LUNA cie)

I believe the update also addressed network rendering. Dave
