#MGA Impression DRV's
15 messages in this thread
Hi Chuck!
I've got a client that bought the original Matrox MGA Impression for the PCI
Bus with the 3MB of VRAM on Board.
They never did get it to work right.
They downloaded some Vibrant Drivers but I think he migh have gotten those
"Beta" drivers that weren't ready for prime time. <g>
They've tried stripping out the FrameBuffer and All the Memory managers and
drivers still do good.
It's a 486DX2 66MHz PCI BUS system. I forgot what brand I'd have to ask again.
64MB RAM 1.2GIG Drive Normally Has the Entry level Illuminator Pro in it too
with DOS 6.2 and they normally use QEMM.
What happens is when they try to start 3D Studio the screen Flips then it Flips
again and they get a cursor in the upper left corner….then an error message
appears that says amoung other numbers and things that there is a "Stack
Failier" and it lists HEX 57.
If they run it with just plain VGA it works.
But they can not get the MGA Card to run 3D Studio.
Oh Ya',…the impression pro driver 1.41 is what they are currently trying to
load. Setting the Main MGA Driver as RCPADI, The Materials section as VESA and
of course they Set the RDPADI for the Illuminator Pro Frame Buffer.
So What do Ya' Think???
Happy Fourth of July!

Hello James,

Matrox own ADI driver is not very good for 3DS. It is much better to use the
inline Vibrant driver. Just run "3ds vibcfg" and select the MGA card.

P.S. I don't know exactly if Vibrant support the PCI version of Impression. But
I hope so.
Thanks Pavel!
I'll Check this out!
Did your Driver work with this card?
Murph'
I am using the last version of Vibrant driver without problems. My card is the
Impression PRO with 4MB DRAM on VL-BUS.
PavelK
Thanks Pavel,
This is the Original VLB Impression with the 3MBVram option, so I think it's
the same card.
I've told em' to download the latest drivers and plug em' in.
"They don't want to Pay me to go over there and do it, otherwise I would."
Does your New software drivers work with this card??
Murph'
Hello James,
I tested my IPAS on Impression 3Z/V (VL-BUS, 3MB) and everything is OK.
Bye PavelK
Pavel!
How much is your Driver Set, and how would I get my Dealership set up to
re-sell these?
Murph'

We sure do.

Does this mean that the PCI version of the Impression is available? I would
like to know where to pick one up if it is.

I believe it is available now. Check with the Matrox forum (Go
GraphBVen), or call a Matrox dealer. Let me know how much it costs!
You might want to give it a few weeks / months to mature. Matrox's
first BIOS' are never quite right.
Great! I will probably wait and see how much budget I have after Siggraph. By
then, hopefully any bugs will be found/fixed/worked-around.

You need to get the released 1.0.3.P1 drivers from this system. The Beta's
didn't support MGA-1 (MGA Impression/MGA Pro) under 3D Studio because of some
problems we had with single-screen configurations. 1.0.3 fixes this.

PS: It is VIB3DS.ZIP.
Chuck!
I just realized I told you it was a PCI Bus.
It Wasn't
It was an original VLB MGA Impression Board with 3MB of VRAM we were having
trouble with.
Murph'
The "original" MGA-Impression w/3m for PCI? Murph', the PCI Impression
(I think) was only released a few weeks ago. Up until then it was ISA / VLB
only. If he has an early PCI-Impression, he might want to talk to Matrox about
a swap.
Go GRAPHBVEN and b*tch to David White, 72120,2111. He's the Compu$erve
representative.
Your right!!! It's a VLB Board!!!
Duhhhhhhh! <g>
