#realtime rendering

hi gary:
now that you guys have developed the real time flat shaded preview in ipas3,
how far are we from realtime gouraurd tx mapped rendering and modleing.
is this still considered si-fi on pc's or are we close???
just curious
ara
Actually, we've got real-time gouraud-shaded previews on the IPAS3 disks right
now. As for texture mapping, I'll let Gary answer that. (It'll probably have
something to do with Autodesk's strict policy regarding future products. <g>)

Stop teasing! I have been waiting for a texture map preview for a long time.
I even mentioned it to John (local multimedia rep in Plano, Tx) a while back.
He said he forwarded the info to the designers….

Jack said it all.

We recently acquired Alias 5.0 Power Animator at work, and they have a great
way of previewing texture mapping. You can project your textures directly
onto the wire frames. And manipulate it around , scale the texture, move it up
or down, rotate the mapping icon. It's really a cool way of seeing in advance
how and where your textures are being placed.

Fred,
You should also take note that the projection and manipulation of texture maps
in Alias 5 only works on NURBS surfaces. You cannot use the method on polygonal
surfaces. You can only preview placement of textures on surfaces that you can
control patch precision.

As Paul said, there are some interesting limitations with that stuff. Like any
system, it has its ups and downs. Good luck!
