Hi Gayle! You must be posting this on a MAC….Right? <g> Usually when I get messages that are posted on MACS I get the messages running way off to the right of my viewable screen so I shuffle to the right and back again to get it. <g> I wish I could find a setting in the CompuServe Information Manager that would reformat these so that wouldn't happen. Of Course I'm useing the DOS version so I guess I should expect that<BG>. Regarding things to do and Vacation Fun. Wow! there are a lot of things to due in this area. Have you ever been to Waupaca? It's not too far a drive from Appleton and there is camping, you can rent regular boats or I prefer a casual Pontoon Boat ride around the Chain-O'Lakes Area. There's Water Parks for the Kids, You can rent Canoes and go on the Crystal River trip…(I reccommend bringing a Blanket or some big Beach Towels as the Rental Canoes are not lined and they are fiberglass)…It's a real pretty trip and even the kids will love it. Just remember to bring a towel or something to cushin your "part" of the Canoe. <g> If you really want to get away from Tourist type places there is a Little known Park in the Crivitz Wisconson area about one hours drive north of appleton…It's called Veterans Memorial Park. There is a campground with a field the kids can play ball in, an old fashion Hand Pump with Very Cold Very Great tasting Spring water, The camping area is beautiful and quite, you can walk down to the falls area and there are 3 water falls. If you cross the bridge by the first falls there is about a 100 foot RockFace you can either try to walk around the "easy" way to the top overlooking the falls or find a more difficult climb. I use to Swim below the second falls when I was a Kid…In Fact if the water is at the right level I used to slide down the moss on the left side of the second falls (looking downstream) in to the basin area…[ if you dedeide to do this, walk and SWIM the lower falls area your going to slide down so you know where the rocks are! <g> .and make sure your a swimmer that doesn't panic<g> if you happen to get caught in the small undertow beneath the falls the water is only about 8feet deep so all ya gotta do is relax, let it push you down and kick off the back rock wall on the bottom and you come shooting out like a pourpose….very entertaining for MOM…My mother use to have fits every time I went under…<g> Not really dangerous if you can swim and approach things logicly….The water is Spring feed from a lot of springs upstream so it's a natural trout Haven..Uh…don't tell the DNR but I've even heard of folks with diving masks and snorkels and a net lurking under the second falls picking up trout…Uh…But of course..Uh…..That would be _Wrong_.<BG> If you fish…You may want to check that out with the local sport shop's in Crivitz though because I've not fished up there for some years. That aside, the water is Cold But Refreshing even on the Hotest day. I think for a camping experience everyone would love it. There are no showers or Flush toilets…so it's roughing it a bit…however you can always Jump in the River! <BG> Uh….that's referring to the Shower Part! <g> The Toilets are Modern Outys'! <g> Actually I still go up there with my Sue-z for picnics from time to time. there's even a swingset and Slide for the Kids. There are a lot of these out of the way places that most folks from out of state miss so just let me know if I'm heading in the right direction with what your looking for. It can go either way….More People More Facilities…Very Few People …Nice but a Bit Primitive Facilities. Hope this helps! <g> Murph'
